I was going through some old threads and read THEDIRECTOR mentioning Huxley...I decided to do some research and my findings were pretty interesting, it's basically an MMOFPS with matches upto 100 V 100, The beta sign ups have started and the Beta itself rolls out on the 13th of September, 2007. Unfortunately the Beta is only offered to the Koreans and I could'nt sign up since I cant understand the website, anyways here's a little info and a link to some screenies.

Gameplay Info-

Little is known about Huxley's gameplay at the moment. Action is directed to be fast-paced, on par with games such as Unreal Tournament 2004, applied to a Massively Multiplayer Online Game setting. This style is in contrast to another MMOFPS, PlanetSide by Sony Online Entertainment, which follows a more tactical and thought out route of action. In a recent interview, Huxley's main producer Kijong Kang said that the cities in Huxley will be able to accommodate up to 5000 (according to recent publications that number was increased to 10000 since summer 2006) people, and the individual battles will support over a hundred players. The battles can be as small as 1 VS 1 or as big as 100 VS 100 players (200), which is a modest improvement over the 150 player maximum of Novalogic's Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising. Player vs. AI will allow up to 64 players of a given faction to play together.

Player vs. player battles will be available, as will be player vs. AI quests that the player can choose to take on. The 360 version of Huxley is said to include a single player campaign.

Huxley Progress Report

The silence is broken with new details, screenshots and movies.

by Erik Brudvig

From IGN

_____________________________________________________________________

March 4, 2008 - Sometimes a game can be in development for so long with so little news that the public begins to doubt if it will ever release. Huxley is one of those games. Admittedly, it can be tough to simultaneously launch a closed beta, move towards an overseas launch in the first half of this year and keep the public up to date…all from Seoul, Korea. After months of silence, however, the Huxley team has come out of hiding to talk about the game, provide new details and deliver vast quantities of screenshots and video.

Huxley first launched itself into the public eye at E3 2005. At that point, the MMOFPS was due out the following year and the team was working out the kinks of marrying the Unreal Engine 3 to their server technology. The 2006 release date was a pipe dream and news on the game's progress began to dry up as the nearly 100-strong development team went into high gear. Since the second E3 showing the following year, Webzen has worked to flesh out the MMO world of Huxley -- including character development, building cities, player vs. player (PvP) battles, player vs. enemy (PvE) battles and quests.

With so little press on this MMO, you may have forgotten or missed Huxley's premise. The first-person shooter MMO takes place in the near future in a world where humans are at complete peace. Things are not to remain that way. A cloud of Nuclearites destroys the moon and the debris trickles down to the Earth's atmosphere. Eighty percent of the earth's surface is destroyed and contaminated by radiation, forcing quick mutation and evolution. A new race called the Alternatives rises and war once more envelopes the planet. "You could say the most immense war begins in the end of the current world," says Kijong "KJ" Kang, Producer at Webzen for Huxley.

Huxley has two persistent cities that allow up to 5000 players to interact at once as well as instanced quests and 100 vs. 100 battles raging on each server. That makes most shooters look tame by comparison, but it's no easy task to pull off and Webzen knows it. Kang told IGN, "We are paying careful attention…for all the possibilities that any server problems could cause an inconvenience for players trying to connect to large scale battles. We are making all efforts for a most enjoyable environment of Huxley, such as optimization of the game engine and an introduction of the newest server technology, etc."

The team is also working closely with beta testers to ensure the game runs smoothly. A closed beta launched in Korea last fall and focus testing with a localized version has taken place in Los Angeles. An open beta in Korea is on the way soon, as well. According to Kang,"We have collected a lot of great feedback, from both Korean and American players, and we're working to analyze the feed-back. We can proudly say that nearly every tester gave us extremely high marks and said that they 'must play Huxley when it launches.'"

That "must play" status likely comes from the unique take on the MMO Huxley presents. Rather than following the World of Warcraft model as so many others have, Huxley is attempting to bring the first-person shooter into the dedicated server world. The game actually looks more like Unreal Tournament in terms of gameplay than any traditional MMO. When asked about the inspiration behind this concept, Kang pulled out a wide assortment of games as reference. "There are so many great games that we love and have probably influenced us in one way or another – World of Warcraft, various Korean MMOPRGs, Fallout, the Battlefield series, Quake3, UT2004, The Half-life series, Planetside, X-com and Master league in Winning Eleven series, the list goes on!

Webzen says it plans to bring Huxley to market in the US by the end of this year. It expects complete localization to take roughly six months with ongoing testing and tweaking occurring simultaneously. However, that will likely only apply to the PC version of the game. The Xbox 360 version is expected to take an additional six months of time after the game is released on PC to make it out of the gate. If you're looking to play Huxley on a console, you can expect to wait until 2009.

Aside from being a late bloomer, the Xbox 360 version of Huxley will also be different from the PC in terms of the content it contains. Of course, the controls and the user interface will be tweaked, but players can also expect to take up arms in a different world than their PC cousins. We've been told that the gameplay will be largely the same. However, each version of the game will follow its own story as they offer up their own "age of Huxley." The PC version will focus on the story of what happened to the missing Dr. Huxley. The console iteration takes place 50 years later and centers on a terrorist group known as the Hybrid Liberation Organization.

Though the games will be unique, there still are plans for cross-platform interactions. According to Kang, "PC and Xbox 360 players can trade items, battle, and quest in their own respective platform worlds. But in certain areas, crossover is feasible that allows connecting to each other's world. The interface of the two worlds will be through quests in the other's territory or battle-zone and the system will be balanced to allow for the distinctiveness of each platform."

In both cases, a pricing structure has not been finalized for the North American market. When asked if it would involve any micropayments, we were assure that while the payment model has not been decided upon, if there are any microtransactions in Huxley they will not affect actual gameplay. In other words, you won't be able to simply go into the game and buy a better gun with real-world money, but you might be able to buy a cool looking helmet.

Stay tuned for more info, screenshots and movies from the Korean beta as our Huxley coverage continues throughout the week with looks at the cites, combat, character creation and skills of Huxley.

Huxley Release Slides Back

Console version lags behind PC.

by Erik Brudvig

From IGN

__________________________________________________________________

March 4, 2008 - Webzen has confirmed to IGN that the Xbox 360 version of the long awaited MMOFPS, Huxley, is roughly six months behind the PC SKU. With localization of the Korean-developed game on PC expected to take around six months and the game due out overseas in the first half of this year, that puts the Xbox 360 release squarely in 2009.

Huxley Resurfaces (X360)

The MMO FPS will be published by free-to-play game purveyor NHN USA.

By GameSpy Staff | June 2, 2008

In a press release issued this morning, NHN USA announced that it has secured rights to publish Webzen's long-in-development MMO FPS Huxley in North America and Western Europe. The game will release in late 2008, and will be available via ijji.com, NHN USA's game portal through which the publisher's other games, including GunZ and Solider Front, are available.

"Huxley is one of the most anticipated online games currently in development, and we are very excited to bring the triple-A title to Western audiences," said Whon Namkoong, CEO of NHN USA. "Huxley provides gamers with a unique and compelling experience that gamers everywhere are sure to enjoy."

According to Sunny Kim, vice president at NHN USA, the publisher is exploring various potential commerce models for Huxley's North American and Western European releases. On the table for consideration are microtransactions, paid subscriptions, and models that would incorporate both selling the Huxley game client at retail, or allowing it to be downloaded for free from ijji.com. Kim also confirmed that NHN USA retains the right of first offer to publish the Xbox 360 version of Huxley, which is still in development at Webzen.
