April and much of May was a bit of a dry period in terms of game releases, but that is set to change. To start off, three new games will start making their way into stores across India tomorrow – Alpha Protocol, Pure Football, and UFC 2010: Undisputed. Check the image below for platforms and prices. In case you’re wondering about the PC version of Alpha Protocol, it is slightly delayed, so you’ll probably see it in stores sometime in June.

Here’s the dilemma most FIFA fans find themselves in. FIFA 10 came out six months ago, FIFA 11 comes out six months from now, and bang in-between we have another FIFA release – 2010 FIFA World Cup. Based on the demo, there’s little doubt that this game plays well, but the question is, does it offer enough to warrant a purchase with a beefier release only a few months away?

Fighting games are quite possibly the one genre of video games which stands out from the rest. Not only do they fall in the extreme spectrum of “love them” or “don’t care”, but a good fighting game can suck in a player for hundreds of hours spread over years, which makes it quite a treasure to behold. Of course, the keyword is “good”, and some of the recent casual ones like Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe weren’t even matching up to the old ones, let alone bringing about any evolution to the genre. That’s when Street Fighter IV came along and it proved itself to be par excellence. Yet, one year down the line, Capcom releases the newest (debatable) iteration of the Street Fighter franchise and, incredibly, the bar has been raised further.

Resonance of Fate is one of the most satisfying RPGs I’ve played in recent times. This latest effort from Sega and tri-Ace, for the most part, is a very traditional Japanese RPG, but with some interesting twists of its own. For starters, it does not have any magic, and the combat revolves around flashy acrobatic gun battles. Intricate armour and elaborate costumes are replaced by jeans, leather jackets and shades. There are no long drawn-out cutscenes or unnecessary exposition, and it also has a very interesting exploration mechanic. But the real highlight is its challenging and surprisingly deep battle system that constantly tests your skills throughout the game and even beyond that.

The Last Hope is the fourth installment in the Star Ocean series, created by Tri Ace. After being an Xbox 360 exclusive for a while, publisher Square-Enix finally decided to launch the game for PS3 as well as Star Ocean: Last Hope International, much to the delight of the fans. The story, in a nutshell, is as follows. The timeline is a little after the Third World War. Most of Earth is contaminated and is unfit for human life. To ensure the continuation of the human species, they have embarked upon space exploration; to boldly go where no man has gone before. This makes Last Hope a prequel to the series. Exploration is fine, but an RPG must have its super-villain, hell bent on destroying the world, or in this case, the universe. As you travel across the galaxy, you will come in contact with other sentient races; some friendly, some not so friendly, and others who are definitely not friendly.

All About Gaming: Your Guide to Gaming

Written by Sameer Desai in News

It’s not like IVG members need a guide to gaming, but the guys over at Chip magazine and Tech2.com (that includes Nash and myself) have put together the latest issue of All About, which is Chip’s monthly e-magazine that targets a different tech category in each issue. The May issue is All About Gaming, and the focus of the magazine is to act as a guide to those who are new to gaming. We have several features on must-buy games, an introduction to motion controlled gaming, as well as a gaming glossary, where we’ve talked about age ratings for games and recommended some must-visit gaming websites (IVG is there, of course) and online retailers. We also have three contests in this issue, where you can win copies of Super Street Fighter IV and 2010 FIFA World Cup, and a brand new PlayStation 3.

In the mean time, you can stay connected via our Facebook page here and receive updates on the status of the forums via our Twitter page. Of course, we’ll have a blog update as well once the forums are back up.

For those who are here for the Splinter Cell: Conviction DLC codes, you can request a code on our Facebook page and we’ll also be giving out codes tonight on Twitter.

The deadline has passed, the entries are in, and the Excel randomiser did its thing. Now all that’s left is to announce the winners of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Contest. As you know, we have one copy each for PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii to give away. We rarely give away Wii games here on IVG, so if there are enough Wii gamers out there who’d like us to have more contest with Wii games as prizes, be sure to let us know on the forums. Hit the jump to find out the names of the three lucky IVG members who’ve won themselves a copy of 2010 FIFA World Cup.
