achilles
Well, this debate can go on and certainly as most people here, gamers won't want to game on phones/tablets. But it's just a myth that games without buttons and on phones and tablets aren't that great. You just have to look around, and wade though more than usual as there are just so many of them, but there are amazing gems out there. And they are every bit as enjoyable as games on consoles, atleast for me. And for most people, certainly far more than not, these games are amazing, very easy to install and delete and even easier to get into. They're dirt cheap too. Many are free to play. In terms of just numbers, this is the biggest form of gaming on the go right now, already. It will just get better when the biggest studios can't ignore it anymore. KnackChap
what that chart wont tell you is that the DS had a pretty lukewarm start, so much so that the psp almost caught it despite releasing a few months later but once nintendogs and co released there was no looking back. would love to take a look at that tracking chart a year from now. Shadoken
But if you are not a big fan of the titles per se, but still want some gaming on the go, what would you prefer ? A handheld where an avg game costs like 40 bucks or your smartphone where the games are a fraction of the cost ? I agree that currently we don't have that good games on the phones, but if you look at the way the mobile phone hw is evolving, I would pretty much say, the handheld market is nit looking good, and of you remember reading the reviews of vita, this was one of the major gripes....cost of the games on handheld ! Like I said earlier, these people aren't the target audience.. it's like saying why would ppl buy consoles when you can just play Facebook or browser games. These people were never an audience, just because their sector grows doest mean its stealing ppl from here. There will always be a market for dedicated gaming devices, technically a phone can replace all the functions of a tablet. But tablets still sell. Another factor is price . Right
What does it mean for western audience? Nothing.
Big Boss
All it means that it can sell well if it gets good games. It is not the price that is the issue, as it seems people are waiting for games to come and then buy. All it means that it is a signal for the devs to create games and then see the numbers, rather than waiting for the numbers to create games. Shadoken
What does it mean for western audience? Nothing. More sales in japan == bigger audience in japan More devs from japan will support it == more games to buy == finally worth buying == sales will improve worldwide == western devs will join in too
