Apocalypto (the best movie for 06 IMO). haven't seen shutter tho.

care to provide an imdb link?

respect ur opinion, but apocalypto was not an extraordinary movie....it started out very well....but ended up being another run-of-the-mill movie....a la 'first blood' !

The best part of the movie was the beautiful cinematography covering the lush forests of latin america !

@NeOVinit:

well the reason i said that is because Mel took the risk by hiring native americans capable of portraying that period in time. He could've made the movie in english but chose not to, which i really appreciated because when dealing with such an old civilization such as the Mayans and Incas it's always better to use the native language rather than some english speaking native american.

Now, when coming to the story well as you said towards the end it goes out of context a little, but IMO still keeps it exciting and fun to watch. I'm sure if other directors had taken up this project they'll probably go for a documentary type of movie (eg: The New World). But instead Mel tried to keep it fresh and interesting and make the 2 hrs or so worth the while. I remember i was seating on the edge of my seat throughout the whole movie, and rarely do movies these days tend to draw viewers attention.

So in the end, the story played out well and the beautiful jungle scenes (black panther chase :furious:), the superstitions which were deeply rooted into the society at that time, the sacrifices, etc...i believe were all very well integrated into the movie to give us Mel's masterpiece yet again.

I loved Apocalypto too but I remember we had a huge argument over it on the old forums! Llater on it turned into a discussion about violent movies...

I started the discussion on apocalypto and you turned it into a topic on violent movies :lol: !

towards the middle :D ??

I think it lost sense in the opening sequence itself where the guy is beheaded and a cat/dog (i dont remember) licks his open throat !

even the plentiful boobs and nudity were not as good as the first part :P !

I'll have to agree then, as soon as the guy got killed right at the beginning i knew there were gonna use different characters. nudity is pretty much limited and the whole mis-reprenstation of eastern european men trying to act the american way just the made the whole movie a pain watching..

hostel 1 had that shock factor to it, the scene where the lead hero looks at his friend's body being stiched together, sent a chill up my spine ! The scenes of the girl's eyes being removed, and the guy's achilles heel being cut, were damn horrifying for first time watchers....for this genre of movies. I almost puked out, unable to stomach all the violence ! It really took days before I got this movie out of mind :D !

Hostel 2 had almost the same story line, so u r neither shocked nor terrified, its like, 'oh i know whats going to happen next' thruout the movie....and it just ends up being a cheap porno-fetish movie.... :P

I hate the "torture porn" genre. What has become of horror movies these days?

Although this might sound contradictory to the above statement, I do like Saw series. But that's only because they have a decent storyline compared to all the other entries in this genre.
