Sir Alex Ferguson has leapt to the defence of under-fire Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, claiming it is "ridiculous" that there are calls for the Frenchman to be axed. - Scocernet

Wenger and Manchester United boss Ferguson have had tremendous battles down the years and have often had verbal spats in the heat of battle. But there is huge respect between the pair and Ferguson has hit out at the criticism of Wenger.

With Arsenal having gone six years without winning a trophy and lost arguably their best player in Cesc Fabregas this summer, the knives are out for Wenger following a poor start to the new season.

And with the sale of Samir Nasri to Manchester City expected to be completed on Wednesday, when the Gunners will also face a crunch Champions League play-off second leg at Udinese with a depleted squad, there have been some questioning how much longer Wenger's 15-year tenure at the club will last.

But Ferguson believes Arsenal will not find a better manager than his old rival and has urged Wenger to reach for a set of earplugs.

"It's a crazy world we're in," Ferguson said. "It's a critical world and you only need to lose a couple of games to have critics howling down at you.

"All the talk is about Arsenal and Arsene leaving. But who can replace him? It's the most ridiculous situation. The man has been simply unbelievable. He has given Arsenal platforms they never thought they'd get to.

"He should carry on. He shouldn't listen to the critics. The one thing you need in this game is earplugs."

Rajkovic leaves Chelsea

Hamburg have announced the signing of defender Slobodan Rajkovic from Chelsea on a four-year deal.

Hamburg boss Michael Oenning hopes the deal will prove productive.

"He is tall and an uncomfortable opponent who can scare other players," said Oenning.

"He is bringing a quality we do not have and we need right now. On top of that he is left footed."

Samir Nasri in 2010 : "I think we have more merit as a club than those who have built their teams with millions of pounds."

Gael Clichy in 2009 : "If any player only wants money , He will go to Manchester City."

Kolo Toure in 2008 : "City may spend a lot , but they will never overtake the Top 4 of the Premiership"

Nasri completes City move

Manchester City have sealed the signing of Samir Nasri from Arsenal on a four-year deal after he successfully underwent a medical.

Nasri had played for Arsenal in their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at the weekend but has now completed a switch to the Etihad Stadium for a fee in the region of £23million.

The challenge for Nasri now will be to establish himself in the City side and he has been handed the No.19 shirt for his first season at the club.

Nasri's departure will come as a huge blow to Arsene Wenger, especially as it comes so soon after Cesc Fabregas left to join hometown club Barcelona.

Unlike Arsenal, City have been busy in the market this summer and Mancini has indicated that Nasri will not be the last new recruit.

Norwich are some tough customers. I saw them play over the weekend and I was shocked at their efficiency in shutting players down and closing distribution. But I don't think they'll last the tide and come December we might see them crumble a bit. Still, very entertaining to watch.
