Latest PS3 Firmware v2.01 breaks CoD4 online?

Many angry gamers have posted up at the Official forums that since updating their PS3's with the new firmware update, they have been unable to play CoD 4 online. A number of users suggested that a got a few hours of play in after updating before the glitches began, so this might suggest that it is not just the FW at fault but that won't stop people from speculating that it is.

PS3 v2.0 debug firmware - downgrading and Blu-ray emulation

From the 2.00 update data(system software) onwards, system software

downgrading has been supported.

Note that when downgrading to 1.xx using the 2.00 system software,

update data that supports downgrading is required (such update data is

to be released separately).

Also, there are restrictions on the versions that can be downgraded to.

Please refer to "5 Updating Flash Memory" section of the "Reference Tool

Software Setup Guide" document for more details.

- The following menu has been added to the termination confirmation dialog

that is displayed when a DUALSHOCK®3 wireless controller and the PS button

is pressed.

Controller Settings -> Vibration Function (On/Off)

You can switch the vibration feature On/Off from this menu. Note that when

a SIXAXIS wireless controller is connected, this menu is not displayed.

"Game" Column

- A content information check feature has been added to the Game column.

This feature checks content information files to see if their format is

correct.

Currently it supports only the following content. Support for other content

is expected to follow.

* Save data (only save data saved to the internal hard disk drive)

* HDD boot game

* Game data

Please refer to the document "System Software Overview" for more details.

"Settings" Column

- A custom theme feature of PLAYSTATION®3 has been added to

the "Settings -> Theme Settings" menu.

Please refer to the custom theme tool package (p3tcompiler-XXX.zip)

that is provided separately for more details.

- The debugger can be connected to the Debugging Station using the dtnetm

command. Due to this change, the following menus have been added to

the system software of the Debugging Station:

Settings -> Debug Settings -> Boot Mode

Settings -> Debug Settings -> Game Output Resolution

- The following menus have been added.

Settings -> Debug Settings -> Blu-ray Disc access

Settings -> Debug Settings -> Transfer rate pacing for BD emulator

These menus can be set on the "Boot parameters" page of the Administration

tool (Blu-ray Disc access, Transfer rate pacing for BD emulator settings).

Also the USB mass storage can be now used as the HDD for the BD emulator

on the Debugging Station. Please refer to the "Reference System Supplement"

for more details.

- The following menu has been added.

Settings -> Remote Play Settings -> Remote Start

Whether to switch the power of PLAYSTATION®3 on when connecting in

a remote play mode from PSP can be set using this menu.

- The "SELF Check Mode" menu that can be found from the "Debug Settings" menu

has been renamed as "Release Check Mode" menu.

- The following menu has been added.

Settings -> Debug Settings -> Update Server URL

The system can be updated via the HTTP server. Please refer to "5 Updating

Flash Memory" section of the "Reference Tool Software Setup Guide" document

for more details.

Sony: We know in-game PS3 XMB access is important and we're working hard

Speaking to Game Informer, Sony's Peter Dille revealed that the company understands in-game XMB access is a feature important to their consumers. But as the PS3 is so advanced it takes time to implement major new features. However, he reassures us that the team is working hard on this feature as they continually evolve the feature set of the Playstation 3 console.

"As far as in-game XMB access, we know it's a feature that's important to our consumers. Because PS3 packs so much advanced technology 'under the hood,' it takes some time to implement major, new functionalities, but we are working hard on addressing this feature, as well as continually expand the capabilities and functionalities of PS3."

PS3 2.10 Tomorrow

Find out what features are included in PS3 system software update 2.10.

An update to the PS3 system software was released on December 18, 2007. If you update your PS3 system, the system software version will be 2.10 and the following features will be updated. In order to download PS3 system software version 2.10, you will need a minimum 120Mb of free space on either the PS3 Hard Disk Drive (System Update) or on removable storage media (PC Update).

The PLAYSTATION 3 system software version 2.10 update includes the following:

* Voice Changer

The Voice Changer feature has been added to voice / video chat. Visit the Voice Changer guide in Help & Support under PS3 at eu.playstation.com for more details.

Using this feature, you can change the tone of a voice that is input from an audio device such as a microphone. High and low-pitched tones can each be adjusted to five preset levels. You can vary the tone when using voice / video chat under Friends.

Other new or revised features in version 2.10

Music

* You can now select [Type 3] as an option under Settings > [Music Settings] > [bitmapping]. This bitmapping process was developed specifically for the PS3TM system to enhance audio playback.

Video

* DivX and VC-1 (WMV) have been added to the types of files that can be played. *

* Blu-ray Disc Profile 1.1 is now supported. **

* [bD Data Utility] has been added. ***

*

- To play VC-1 (WMV) format files, you must go to Settings > [system Settings] and set [Enable WMA Playback].

- Copyright-protected files or files that were encoded by using DivX 3.11 cannot be played. - Files that are 2GB or more cannot be played.

** You may now be able to use several additional features such as playback of two videos at the same time with Profile 1.1-compatible Blu-ray Discs. The available features vary depending on the disc.

*** The management data that is used by the Blu-ray Disc is saved.

Note:

* This system software update includes all features contained in previous versions.

* The new system software will preserve any settings previously made to the PLAYSTATION 3. Depending on the software title, you may not be able to play without first updating the PS3 system software.

* Do not perform updates using any data other than the official update data provided by Sony Computer Entertainment over a network or on disc media, and do not perform updates by methods other than those described in the product documentation or in this site. If an update is performed using data from another source, by another method, or with a PS3 system that has been altered or modified in any way, the PS3 system may not operate properly and may not be able to install the official update data. Any of these actions may void the PS3 system warranty and affect your ability to obtain warranty services and repair services from Sony Computer Entertainment.
