Numbers, MTx, and Fiscal sales discussion thread

Was already under EA and without them, no one would publish Respawn just like 5 years back. Better cash out while you still can.

Leaves EA to stop making Medal of Honor games -> goes to Activision to make Call of Duty -> leaves Inifinty War to stop making Call of Duty games -> strikes a deal with EA for Titanfall -> get bought out by EA. Nq2yDKT.png

Guess this gives EA to freely release a shooter every year. Battlefield, Battlefront and now Titanfall.

Another way of looking at it is, Respawn may have tried to keep their studio afloat without a corporate buyout but TF2 not meeting their sales target pushed them to do this. I won't blame them if it is either shuttering the studio or let EA in and making some money while you are at it.

There is a conspiracy theory floating around that EA purposely released it very close to battlefield and cod to make it fail so they can have leverage while buying respawn.

Although, I don't really blame respawn. 400 million dollars is a f**kton of money.

On the other hand, expect EA to monetise respawn games beyond comprehension. They've spent top dollar for the studio which means they must've estimated to earn a lot more money from it. So, either it'll release p2w games or be axed. Neither of them are good for the gaming community.

They just made a deal with the devil.

Except it was Respawn's decision to release the game in October; not EA. ROFL! People will go to any extent to make EA look bad. 2f90m8u.png

Without EA, Respawn wouldn't have survived as no one bothered with Respawn after they left IW.

Just now, adity said:

They chose the release window and not the date. EA could've released it 2 months later in December.

December is the end of their quarter. And releasing the game in December would have made it worse.

Second, if EA wanted to have MTs and season passes, they will have it. They chose not to with Titanfall II and look how that worked. No one bothered with it. zxWgYMq.png

Respawn was already EA's company when they signed the deal. The only difference was they didn't own the IP. Now they do. They paid for it. If it was really bad, Respawn would know it, but nope, they wanted money and cashed out before it was too late.

Funny, about time they realised that you need money to survive. zxWgYMq.png

Last, EA has also offered a $160M bonus to Respawn if they make a good game in next 4 years. You can blame EA all you want, but this is on Respawn and Respawn alone.

Yeah TF2 flopped because it didn't have MTs

Respawn actually had a bunch of takers for their new IP, but once they said they want to retain ownership of IP everyone disappeared except THQ and EA. Luckily they went with EA because THQ went tits up in following months. And even then, Respawn didn't get enough funding and support for servers so they had to strike another deal with MS to use their servers and fund the remaining budget of the game. When a corporation like MS has more faith in your game than your own fking publisher it tells a lot about what kind of company it is.
