Valkyria Chronicles 4

BLiTZ battle system and CANVAS engine (From VC1) is making a return. Hitoshi Sakimoto (Music composer of VC1) is also returning for this project (We can hope for something as great as Rosie's song again; that really got me in the feels ). It takes place during the same time as VC1 (So really can't call this a proper sequel). MC is Commander Claude Wallace and his team E are from Atlantic Federation it seems (The 2nd superpower aside from the empire) and not from Gallia. Major Team members under him include engineer Riley Miller, a "hotheaded" Darcsen named Raz, and sniper Kai Schulen.

Official synopsis:

It is the year 1935 EC...

The continent of Europa is engulfed in the flames of the Second Europan War between the Atlantic Federation and the Autocratic Eastern Imperial Alliance. Although the Federation struggles valiantly against the Empire's forces, the relentless imperial military machine threatens to consume them. With victory slipping away, the Federation executes Operation Northern Cross: a last-ditch attempt to capture the imperial capital and end the war.

Commander Claude Wallace and his loyal childhood friends in Squad E are sent to fight for the desperate operation's success, but they will have to endure harsh bone-chilling elements, waves of imperial soldiers, and the terrifying Valkyria... and unravel a grave truth that will shake them to the core.

Really excited. It's been a very long time since a proper VC game. And Valkyria Revolution, was not that good according to me.

Forgot to mention; it is a worldwide release in 2018; so Japan and West gets it at same time.

Also some important facts from an interview with SEGA VC4 producer Kei Mikami(which shows they are moving away from VC 2 and 3 model and returning to VC 1)

When did Valkyria Chronicles 4 begin development?

Kei Mikami: It’s been about two years since the project officially started. It might be a little longer if you include the time our director, Mr. Yamashita, spent in the planning phase.

What inspired the story, characters, and setting?

Kei Mikami: Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 3 were both released exclusively on PSP, which was a very prolific console in Japan. Their themes, therefore, catered to our Japanese audience, such as a schoolyard environment or a fantastical special ops team. This time we decided to return to the first game’s grounded military setting. As such, we moved away from super soldiers with extraordinary powers. Instead you’ll find characters who are more like people you could see yourself meeting in everyday life.

We gathered reference material by studying countless records of the troops who participated in World War II. In doing so, we learned about soldiers who never lost hope, even in dire straits. Perhaps it was their youthfulness that allowed them to hold onto that positivity. These tales of soldiers whose dreams were crushed by the stark realities of war, only for them to stand back up and face that reality head-on, affected our team on a deeply emotional level.

What makes Valkyria Chronicles 4 different than the rest of the mainline series?

Kei Mikami: The first Valkyria Chronicles games focused on the small country of Gallia. This time around, the world itself is expanding to reveal an epic story that covers the full scope of the Second Europan War. We recreated a world history loosely based on the frontlines of the Eastern Theatre and want you to experience a different side of the Europan conflict. How did the war impact other continents? What lies beyond the Gallian front? Discover the global impact of EWII through the mechanical improvements and narrative innovations of our latest creation.

What’s new about the Canvas system?

Kei Mikami: New hardware allowed us to repaint the gorgeous visuals you know and love in a whole new light. In order to amplify Canvas’ hand-drawn, watercolor aesthetic, we deepened the shadows to make its colors pop. We also added real-time environmental effects — like footprints left in the snow, or heatwaves warping the air around you — to give the sense that you’re actually there in person.

BTW how many people think the blonde girl (heroine in the image posted above) will be revealed as a Valkyria later on?

Been 1 day since my last post in this thread, so maybe this doesn't count as a double post maybe

Anyway, a new class has been announced for VC4.

The new class is called "Grenadier". Grenadiers can attack opponents from afar and shoot to a high altitude. They can also attack enemies without seeing them, provided other soldiers alert them of the enemy's location (by this I assume so long as an enemy is discovered on map, Grenadiers can attack them regardless of range; This is what makes them different from Snipers).

But Grenadiers cannot attack enemies right in front of them.

Also, Story DLC is announced which will feature Squad 7 MCs from the first game (Welkin, Alicia, Isara, Rosie and Largo). Completing the DLC will unlock those characters for the main game as well. Similarly, first print editions get an additional DLC "Advanced Special Operations". Completing it will unlock Edy from the first game for the main VC4 campaign.

This game is releasing in Summer 2018 for all platforms Worldwide (except PS4, which has a Japanese release on March 21, 2018)

Not many people will be interested, but a new trailer dropped for VC4. Although it's in Japanese and without subs, it's well worth a watch. It's giving major original Valkyria Chronicles vibes. Thankfully, they seemed to have moved away from the dating sim slice of life of VC2 and whatever that spinoff was and gone back to their roots.
