The car, popularly called the Rs one lakh car, will cost Rs 100,000 at the dealer end but would attract VAT and transportation cost. "Since we started the project four years back, there has been a steep increase in input cost, but a promise is a promise," Tata Group chief Ratan Tata said after unveiling the car - his pet project. ================ Tata NANO is 600cc Btw, Bajaj car is not a 1-lajh car...will cost 2-4 lakh and will only be available in 2009 peace Kudos to Ratan tata for this great achievement!! 1 lakh car no f**kin joke!!...........plus the mileage is 20 km/litre....!!!! 21% more boot space than maruti 800!! Heck, even autorickshaw-walas can upgrade now!! btw, "Infrastructure is a major concern with India and I accept that we are behind our neighbours in the area. And India is working towards it with a new roads policy. But in the next five year, Tata Motors is only targeting to have 500,000 small cars that will constitute just 2.5 per cent of the total number of passenger vehicles in the country. With those numbers, the small car can hardly be an infrastructure nightmare as it is made out to be," Ratan Tata said unveiling the company's pride at the Auto Expo 08 on January 11 on Thursday.
