AtheK
Survival Horror games are made to elicit fear, horror and terror responses from Players and Siren: Blood Curse is out to just reaffirm that believe. When I got this game in my hand I had been tortured enough by Alone in the Dark to give up hope on any good Horror games and I had a feeling that this game will be best a little better version of Siren on PS2. So with Heavy Heart I popped the disc inside my play station 3 and got a phone call at the same time so while I was attending the phone call I started hearing some odd eerie sounds from my home theatre system and oh boy it was Siren soundtrack playing on the standby screen any one of you who plays this game it is my strong recommendation that you pop the disc in and just wait the music will set the tempo. Yes it is Scary. With my face lit up and a wide smile I started the game and after a 5GB mandatory install I finally got to play the game. The game has 12 episodes in total and every episode is presented like a TV serial which is good in a way. So when the Episode starts it will tell you what happened in the last Episode and when the episode ends it will tell you what you can expect in the Next One. Pretty Neat. Siren is the story of a TV crew from America, who has journeyed to research and film an exposé on the urban myth of Hanuda, the Vanished Village. Frozen in the 1970s and surrounded by a red sea, it is said that an ancient curse has been set upon this town and in order to survive, they must defend themselves from the vicious Shibito, the living dead, and other terrifying monsters. Throughout the game you play each of the visitors to the village, while the game's unique Sight-Jack System enables you to switch seamlessly between the visions of the hunted and the hunters. As the plot thickens you discover you are stuck in a time loop in which events eternally repeat and change. The shibito are anything but zombies they can get down very easily and they get up that easily as well. There is no way you can kill them forever yes not even a headshot works they eventually get up and get to work. The Entire village will be doing their routine chores as you try to complete your objectives and this is when stealth helps in a great way in completing your objectives. To help you complete your objectives there are a total of 50 weapons ranging from wine bottles to Guns. The effectiveness of the weapons differs of course but you can always take down a shibito if you can sneak up to them from behind. Every chapter has main goals and sub goals it is advisable to complete sub goals to increase the game play and also to get to collect more archives as they give you insight about the characters and the story. Episode 1 and 2 are very small and get over within a blink of an eye but let that not put you off because as the game progresses the length of episodes increases and so does the depth in the story and game play. Episode 1 starts with a college student, Howard who is shown fighting with a Police officer the Episode essentially explains the control of the game about how to hide attack and pick weapons and use them. Episode 2 introduces you to Sam, Sol, Melissa (Sam’s Ex-Wife) who are searching for their lost daughter Bella. There is another character Amana Introduced as well who will explain you the art of Sight Jacking. It is in Episode 3 that the things start getting interesting as it starts with Bella the small girl who even if seen by a Shibito will die. So you have to essentially use stealth to get the missions accomplished here. This extends the game play value and adds the excitement to the game as you never know that which corner of the hallway has a shibito waiting for you. At this instance you realize that how sight jacking can be a great boon. Dual Shock 3 use has been implemented very effectively as the controller starts to vibrate if there is any shibito in the vicinity and the intensity of vibration increases or decreases based on how close the Shibito is to you. Using both the Sight jack and Vibration indication you can make your way out of tricky situations. I will jump on to Episode 5 directly as this is where you will face the toughest challenge yet in the game and that is to solve a puzzle. The puzzle is rather very poorly designed and I can say confidently that I was able to get through just because Lady Luck was by my side. I am sure that there will be a logical way to solve it but when I did a search for it after finishing the game I was rather disappointed to find out that almost everyone had trouble with the Puzzle. Episode 6 is centered on Bella and includes more of stealth. Episode 7 is centered on Howard and is one of the most interesting chapters in the game as you get to play in open fields and for a change you get to play in day time and a lot of dark alleys and caves that scare you are missing. Episode 8 will introduce you to Sol for the first time and he has to co ordinate with Sam to get out of a tough situation. Sol is playable only in this one episode though his role in the game is on a much bigger scale which you will find out when you play the game. I will not be writing anything about Episode 9-12 which are easily the best chapters of the game and move the story to a fitting end. The end though could have been made a little better as the last boss battle is anything but a shame to a very well designed game. After you end the game mini games are unlocked and you also have the option to play any episode you want as the Episodes keep getting unlocked as and when you finish them. In the end the game give you stats that how long you took to finish the game. The game play is very good and robust though it takes some time getting adjusted to the camera as you can’t rotate it 360 degrees. The Graphics are incredible and the Shibito with blood flowing from their eyes and ears do manage to give you the scare. The surroundings are rendered beautifully and they have even managed to get some black cats to jump on you suddenly out of nowhere. If even this does not scare you I will recommend you to hit the L3 button and play the game in First Person experience and enjoy some of the scary moments when a shibito jumps on you from a corner or a Spider shibito falls on you from the ceiling. The game has it shares of Flaws as well specially the point that you can only rotate the camera to a certain angle. When you sight jack the screen is split into two during which you are vulnerable to shibito attack. Some of the rendering is also not up to the scale and does not give the consistency in graphics department while the game can look stunning at times it can look really very ordinary at other times. Luckily those moments are few. These minor issues are totally overcome by great sound effects. There are plenty of spooky and eerie sounds that are sure to send some chills down your Spine. The voice acting of the characters is excellent and so are the voices of shibito. The overall score is amazing and adds to the atmosphere of the village and makes it look even more haunted then it actually is. A 10/10 to the sound department. IndianVideoGamer Verdict: Switch off the Lights Crank up your Home Theatre System Volumes and take a ride to Hanuda.

Harsahil
^^^ hey AtheK buddy... very nice review... ur efforts are appreciated for writing such a lengthy and detailed review. Siren is the best Survival Horror game on PS3 yet and it will stay in our minds for a long time ps: for that puzzle, i solved it by drawing out the clues on a paper.. i rather enjoyed it. i usually use this method in games like Silent Hill too. playstation
I finished the game yesterday. I agree with both Athek and Harsahil on this statement made by harsahil Siren is the best Survival Horror game on PS3 yet and it will stay in our minds for a long time I still need to play Silent hill homecoming. but whatever this game will sure stay in our minds for a long time. Simply Awesomegame. Beautiful Graphics, Sound was Very good, Gameplay Fantastic but as athek pointed out its got few flaws -specially puzzles are not interesting and one more thing i did not liked it was that on many mission they ask the same guy to get hold of a weapon , they should have atleast let the character have the weapon he acquired in last mission after all who is going to throw a useful weapon if got caught in this situation ...these are just minor flaws nothing to be taken very seriously. Also yaar i must say this guess what happen - in episode 11 where i need to go with miyako to break the seals - i was in west field and 2 shibito started attacking us.. miyako was right next to me. i was killing those shibato when miyako suddenly got completely undressed and wow!.. they did superb work on her body.... fortunately i brought the tv in my room ... i like playing alone - specially horror games On second thought i really dont wanna part with this game. Hope i get dmc4 without parting with Siren
