Urgent: Few Paypal queries

Hi Guys

I need some help related to using Paypal. Please help me out asap as I need to figure out some shopping details..

1. If I add money to Paypal using an Indian credit card (say close to 600$) How much would be the total charge levied to my credit card? Assuming x as $ to rupee rate, will it be 600*x + paypal fees + bank fees? And if yes, what will be the general amount (fixed or percent) for these fees?

2. Generally when I buy through ebay using paypal, it says that item will be delivered only to the address given by Paypal. Does that hold true for all online shops? I need to buy something from a US shop and deliver it to a US address but my Paypal account is Indian so I can't give that address.. (Maybe I can create a new US account and do it that way but some money is there in my India account, will it charge me extra for tfring that money to the new account?)

3. Will it be better (read cheaper) to fund my paypal account through a US credit card? and by how much?

Thanks

Shantanu

Aswrs:

1) I dont think Paypal charges anything for purchases.

2) That condition is not for all shops/sellers. Also, if you email the seller and explain him the situation he should ship it to another address. It should not be a problem.

3) See 1 above.

However, be very careful with these Paypal trnsactions. I have had a very experience when I bought a mobile phone from ebay US and seller shipped a box without the phone. Paypal customer service SUCKS BIGTIME. And its very difficult for a foreign buyer to claim the amount as you need to file a police report which you cant do sitting here. So be very carful and only choose sellers which gr8 feedback.

1.there will surely be some charge dont know how much to be specific

2.in ebay many sellers do ship it to other addresses if you tell them beforehand.for that you need to contact the seller and ask him if he is ready.as for online shop you can ask their customer care and see if they will do it or not.but there is a catch.suppose your item does not reach that US address for example then your chances to get a refund etc will be very less.the seller will say that the buyer insisted on shipping to a different address and he agreed and he did it.so since its a address not verified by paypal, the paypal guys wont bother or take any action against the seller also.very less chances.

3.again no idea.dont know the rates if you fund it by a us card.shoot a mail to paypal help or check their help pages to get the exact charge.

yea paypal CS does reply late at times but still its safe.because if the seller is genuine he will surely try to help you and find a way out incase the thing goes missing etc.you can always start off a dispute in paypal (resolution center) within a specific time frame.the genuine sellers dont prefer if you raise a dispute and so they really try to solve it out.i have had few refunds for items.totally depends more on the seller and your interactions.

plus a important thing .suppose you raise a paypal dispute and the seller contacts you and ask you to close the dispute and he will refund it.ask him to first help you by (refund/halfpayment/sending item again ....depends on you) and then you will close the dispute...because once you close a dispute in paypal you cant start it again for the same transaction..that option will be gone

Thanks gautam/obaid. Actually the seller here is hpshopping.com so not much chance of going against the procedure here..

But anyways, another query.. Do Indian Credit Cards still work with Paypal after the introduction of Secure Code/Verified By Visa thing? Asking because I just added a CC to Paypal but it didnt ask me for code..

Yeah, in a paypal transaction which I did on eBay UK, i was not asked for the VBV code. Guess its not mandatory for paypal. With reg to the shipping address, I cannot speak for eBay since both ebay and paypal have the same address, I never found out whether its choosing the paypal addr or ebay addr.

edit: Oh but wait, I purchased something from etronics.com last year through paypal using my Indian card, and got it shipped to LA. So I guess it would work.

Not to hijack this thread, but I wanted to know: is it possible to transfer funds to your PayPal account via Citibank (or any bank for that matter)?

nope...that facility is there only for US residents...not possible..it will show you only add funds from US bank account

Paypal does not charge any fees for funds transferring IF you have a premier account and the transfer is from paypal-to-paypal. If it from another source like credit card, or bank account, or if there is any currency exchange involved, then there will be transaction fees involved.

Transfer of money from bank accounts is possible only for US residents and, as an extension, US bank account holders.

The iPIN/VBV code is asked for by Indian shopping sites only. Foreign websites do not ask for it as they are exempt from RBI restrictions (thankfully).

First time paypal user here. Need some advice <_<

I have linked my Indian CC to my paypal account, now should I add funds to my accounts ? Or can I go ahead and buy what I want on ebay and my CC will get billed by Paypal automatically ? When I click on add funds, it just gives me the option of transfering from US account !

^^ how do i check that ? The seller says he accepts paypal.

Paypal is something like PaisaPay on eBay.in site.

Most reputed buyers give this option and while checking out you can choose to pay using paypal.

That will take you to ur Paypal page with the order details.

You get two options as far as exchange rates go.

1. You can let Paypal bill you in Indian Rupee and they give u an exchange rate (I generally choose this)

2. Paypal will bill in the currency the Seller is expecting and the CC co. will charge u based on their exchange rate.
