VelivolusDas
IGN Preview:- The Black and White Mystery of The Unfinished Swan When you first begin playing The Unfinished Swan, you'll find yourself on a white screen devoid of any explanations or tutorials. You're never told what you're supposed to do. As you inevitably mash the triggers and face buttons and move around the analog sticks, the screen shakes in turn. Before you know it, black paint begins squirting all over the screen, giving you a mysterious path on which to proceed. The strange way The Unfinished Swan throws players into the experience from the get-go sets the exact cadence developer Giant Sparrow is going for. Without guiding the player -- and in fact intentionally making things as vague as possible -- players are expected to own the experience and figure things out for themselves. This may sound frustrating and strike some as an outright poor design choice in an industry dominated by hand-holding. But when you see The Unfinished Swan in action, it quickly becomes clear why the 12-man team at Giant Sparrow decided to chart this particular course. Set in a world straight out of a child's storybook -- described by the developers as a "fairytale landscape" designed to inspire a "sense of wonder" -- The Unfinished Swan revolves around a young boy named Monroe who one day finds himself immersed in the art he and his mother admire in the real world. By using the analog sticks to move around in a first-person perspective (or the PlayStation Move, should you so desire), players will be able to launch paint balls at their surroundings with their controller's triggers, turning the boring whitewash you first encounter into something alive and traversable. The paint will coat the walls and floors of labyrinthine corridors and rooms as you work your way further and further into the unknown. "The idea was originally a grad student project," Giant Sparrow Creative Director Ian Dallas explained as he sat down with IGN to describe his game. "I was at the USC grad program for game design and every week I'd have to come in with a new prototype." The most promising of these prototypes was what would become The Unfinished Swan. After showing the game off at an independent Tokyo game show in 2009, Sony contracted Giant Sparrow to bring The Unfinished Swan exclusively to the PlayStation Network. You may have already put the dots together, but Ian Dallas and some of his crew having come from USC's game design program is no coincidence. That's where the studio responsible for Flow, Flower and Journey -- thatgamecompany -- also came from. "In 2009, we signed a deal with Sony which was basically identical to the one that they had signed with thatgamecompany," Dallas said. The deal is the same down to how many games Giant Sparrow will initially make exclusively for Sony; The Unfinished Swan is the first of three. One of the most anticipated games of the year for me now...... The concept is freakishly awesome.....

Choron ka raja
Why since limbo, every game wants to start without tutorial? And why do they tell us that it is supposed to be like this, instead of letting us figure it out? Isn't that something of a stupid marketing decision? As for the game, psn exclusive

Big Boss
I see EG is still sucking up to Microsoft. Some ultra lame XBLA games got good reviews, and this game gets a 6.

Big Boss
Really? I always had the impression that EG is pretty good at what they do. Except hating on Sony and blindly praising British devs like Ninja Theory. Most of the reviews of Sony first party are biased, read UC 3 review. Their coverage during PSN outage was overly negative and sarcastic. Most of their articles regarding Vita (especially against that chinese knockoff), PS3 revisions are full of sarcasm not associated with Nintendo or MS articles. Big Boss
Before clicking, I really thought this was a parody thread for The Last Guardian. Exactly my thoughts when I saw this topic first time. ^ Then you should read Ign's Greg Miller reviews. The man has a massive hard on for everything playstation. EG's reviews are one of the best and most respected in the business I dont read IGN reviews at all. IGN0orant POS site. I read EG reviews and their articles as they are pretty fast and update during our day time. For reviews I read GS and Giant Bomb. But I consider IVG reviews as most trusted source.
