playstation
~2 years at-least, unless someone is desperate for a sale and wants to get rid of it. Even then depending on the age of the card and the state of the competition expect it to be above ~18000/- INR. okay. means 2015...nvm ..will have atleast one next gen console by then... Now i am on hd 6670 ...i wanted to play Tomb raider with full settings i could not..still it works but by next gen games how much will it be able to hold?? at most i will be able to play some games at low resolution...kya fayada asa khela ke hd monitor mein?? ... they should try to give more room for a card to establish and gamers to be able to see smooth transition from one card to another both money wise and technology wise. True... they do not give room for budget gamers to finish up on the kind of money they spend if they buy a high end gaming PC.... the upgrades are too often... Guess consoles are way better that way.. but somehow... There's no getting over PC gaming....
Heaven Angel
PC low = console. With decent card like 660ti or AMD (~$300), you can easily play all games on max and medium settings for ~3-5 years easily. Also, you can always turn of Physx, lessen SMAA settings and stuff, etc to enjoy maximum performance with great graphics. Each console game costs $50-60..that's 5 console game = GTX 660ti..I don't see why anybody can't afford it..
ALPHA17
I doubt in 2 years it'll be available for ~10,000 INR GTX 580 is still ~25,000+ Depends on where you get it from and second-hand is the way to go if you want to get it for cheap with warranty. SLi / CrossFire is expensive because of the hardware involved. Hardware turnover is expected to rise, lets see how long this generation of consoles will last and how far can the graphics be pushed. This will dictate the age of the current crop of cards. With decent card like 660ti or AMD (~$300), you can easily play all games on max and medium settings for ~3-5 years easily. It all depends on the prowess of the current crop of consoles, if they are as powerful as they are made out to be then a mid-range card like the GTX660 Ti (AMD HD7870) might struggle from next year onward. There's the Next gen Processor which is heavy on the pockets, gaming series hardware to avoid over heating and stuff... On a console, One does not even think of performance and quality, it is what it is... Since higher end is not defined its non existent for Console gamers.. but in PC, you always have a bug at the back of your head about that small glitch or that slightly long load time... it's like spend a huge load of money and in a matter of months, a small glitch will capture your mind set about how the process of wearing down has begun.... If you want to crib, you can make a mountain out of anything. Have a three year old PC, will swap out a graphics card, that is it. Will be good till at-least ~2015. Then lets see if I need a complete overhaul. Many components in a PC can be carried forward in an upgrade cycle, I cannot say the same about a console. Also buying a PC means a little bit of research instead of putting down the cash / card.

The price is easily offset if you consider the price at which games launch at consoles compared to PC.
MarketTantrik
Spending on top flight PC components up front will give your rig long legs. I built my rig in 2010, spending a bomb on top or close to top end components. 3 years hence, a simple graphics card swap (Radeon 5970 to GeForce 670) has allowed me to play BF3, Metro: Last Light, Crysis 2, etc. at 1080p with all settings maxed and only reductions to AA settings to keep frame rates stable. With regular sales on PC games from Steam, GMG, Amazon, GGG, etc., it works out to a pretty sweet deal financially over a 4-5 year period to keep playing games with all bells & whistles enabled. Also buying a PC means a little bit of research instead of putting down the cash / card. Well, i'm not denying the fact that we can manage the budget without over spending... and well yes, with a bit of research one does get a set of optimized configuration which goes a long way, but what i was stressing on was the fact that no matter what config you have, You just cant stop thinking about some dude who's roped in TITAN or a GTX 7** which beats you down, probably i think too much on these lines, but the fact stands that a lot of people do get let down as soon as news hits of a title release for which top configuration can only be played on high end systems... its not about how one can manage playing games on a budget pc, i'm talking about how the mind works craves towards the better when the option is presented to you, thats not the same in consoles, plus, game budget in consoles can drastically come down with Exchange/Selling... Or Probably the whole "There's a new more kick@$$ hardware out in the market that runs the newest titles on full HD top config " hits me more than others...Kinda like a mental spike that there's a option in the game setting i can't turn all the way up... But i totally agree that managing the budget and dragging the pc till the next 3 years is totally possible... Bottom line - Play the Game, PC or Consoles..!!! A decent GPU like the GTX660Ti is fine if you are looking at just HD resolution high eye-candy for now, keeping the post new-console times an HD7950 3GB GHz edition would carry you for three years. If you keep looking at the latest hardware releases and feel beaten down then I cannot help it, the hardware is capable for ~2 -->3 years without splurging on it. . You cannot get brand new console games for $15 with full multi-player support intact. That is something that is exclusive to STEAM, Amazon sales. Also, I am not dragging my PC, I can only upgrade my graphic card when I feel it is right and have the funds to do so. Not before that. And in the end as you said, play the game, screw the platform.
