Assassin’s Creed 4′s ‘disgraceful’ whaling criticised by PETA

“Whaling—that is, shooting whales with harpoons and leaving them
to struggle for an hour or more before they die or are hacked apart
while they are still alive—may seem like something out of the history
books, but this bloody industry still goes on today in the face of
international condemnation, and it’s disgraceful for any game to glorify
it.

“PETA encourages video game companies to create games that celebrate animals—not games that promote hurting and killing them.”

They've changed the hood.. No more pointy on front, man they're killing the mark..

:( I used to like the hood... Gave the assassins that killer look.

Maybe you'll be able to buy upgrades and different outfits which have the pointy front though :scratchchin:

PETA can go and suck it. f**kers are fine with games that celebrate killing people in most gory ways possible, but if some game has hunting, they cry and whine. It is not like people will start hunting whales with harpoons after playing AC4. I hope these Peta guys are eaten by the wild animals they care so much about.

Ubisoft responds to PETA’s criticism of whaling mechanic in Assassin’s Creed IV

“History is our playground in Assassin’s Creed. Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is a work of fiction that depicts the real events during the golden era of pirates. We do not condone illegal whaling, just as we don’t condone a pirate lifestyle of poor hygiene, plundering, hijacking ships, and over-the legal-limit drunken debauchery.”

- Ubisoft senior PR manager Stone Chin

Eh, that’s a fair response. Hiding behind the guise of “it’s historical!” is more or less false considering that “glorification” implies you’re stretching the truth to make things seem cooler than they were, but simply stating “sorry, it’s a game, get over it” is completely fair, and I would be obliged to agree with that sentiment! They aren’t being historical, but too bad, it’s a piece of storytelling.

Assassin's Creed IV's single player requires an internet connection for next gen consoles

According to Ubisoft, next-gen console versions of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag will require an internet connection for the game's single player campaign. The reasoning behind the decision is due to all the social features they are implementing for the game and the PS4 influencing this decision.

Creative Director Jean Guesdon stated:

ACIVBF will also be available on Next Gen consoles. In addition to improved graphics and physic, Next Gen versions will bring to the players new connected features allowing them to feel that even if they remain “Single Player” it will be better to be a “Single Connected Player.” “I mean, that Next Gen Consoles will allow players to have a solo experience that benefit the presence of a huge community.”

They did not clarify if the requirement means an "Always On" connection is needed or if the single player is playable and/or impacted without it.

The PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 versions will not have these features while the Wii U might be affected depending if Ubisoft includes those social features for that version.
