Microsoft hiring 'next generation' Xbox developers

Recommended Posts

@Udham: first of all, nice name :)

secondly, that is the part we are all missing, this gen was way better than the previous gen, HD games, network support, bla-bla

sure, but those were the reasons you wanted this gen of consoles, right, not because they will stop PS2 and Xbox sequels

so if there are any such valid reasons, please enlighten me with those

PS: I still believe that cross game chat is just a distraction but that is just me

I will take that risk.

And guess you are not enjoying lobby system etc in your fighter...the new generation hasn't done anything except getting you better graphics?

Those are sequels, aren't they? :P

Now we know the real reason, took five pages for it to come out

Same reason when a person in the middle of a boss fight in Bayo gets a CoD DTM invite, don't you love such friends and such features :P

How did you edit the post without "edited at this ..." written?

Admin capablility?

Anyone who thinks that new hardware = new IP is just naive. In fact, devs will put most of their efforts in developing engines for the new hardware that they will have very less time left to develop new IPs and take risks.

Anyways, even if that is true, Afty and you ask when should the "next gen" come in. Let me ask the same thing to you. By that argument, it should come every alternate year? every 3 years? every 4 years?

If it comes in too soon (and 5-6 years is soon for console game devs considering the efforts and money they have to put in for any console and also considering the amount of time that it takes to develop a console in the first place) then all it will do is reduce the profits of game devs/console makers. Ultimately, with reducing profits, again all you will see is sequels cuz no one would want to take risks or spend more time in developing a good enough engine because they know the hw is going down the drain soon enough. So it will lead to the very situation that you do not want.

Wah....HundredPercentSahi bro...Really good points.+1 repped.

@Udham: first of all, nice name :)

Even i complimented on that name ...when i heard first time....named after Udham Singh...the famour freedon fighter...he assassinated a english man who was behind jallian wala bagh in england only....Very few parents keep those name these days...specially on freedom fighters and all. :hi2: ..aaj kal Sab hero hoerine cricketer politician ke naam pe bacha ka naam rakhta hai . <_< ...Hum apna bacha ka naam Bhagat rakhega.....soch liya hai . :good:

I am not saying cross-game chat is a huge feature to be missed. You can live without it.

Point I'm trying to make is upgrade in hardware goes beyond just the looks of the game. What Xbox did OK, 360 excelled.

This generation has offered lot on the table when it comes to online. Digital downloads which were a rarity on consoles are a normal thing. It gave your favorite dev chance to wh*re out costume packs for a fee too, that's a different thing though. :P

You may be satisfied with current offerings but you don't even know what may the next gen h/w can bring. Who knows the MMOs might become mainstream on console...you can play MAG with 512 players, or HALO with 64 players...or a tiny upgrade like your FL can have more than 100 friends.

Those are sequels, aren't they? :P

Yeah, and they play better this generation, guess what he had missed if Sony would have stuck with PS2 forever.

@CC Almost EVERY big game coming out this year is a sequel to a 2009 game. PS3, 360, Multiplatform etc doesn't matter. Seriously. Make a list of 2011 games and about 80% of them are on an alternate year cycle now. Thats what happens when a generation goes on for too long. Things are stagnant. And they are only gonna get worse.

That has nothing to do with how old the hardware is. Look at the games that were successful in 2006 - R6 Vegas, Gears of War 2, Motorstorm, Resistance. They all got sequels in 2008.

The reason we have so many sequels is because no one is buying new IP - Crackdown, Mirror's Edge, Enslaved off the top of my head. New IP are risky business, more so because development costs are high. Look at the number of good studios that have been shut down this gen. In such a scenario, making sequels to games that have worked is the safest thing to do. Those costs are now coming down, and if a new wave of consoles comes, costs are going to go right back up and we're going to have more devs shutting shop and even more sequels because no one is going to take risks.

Just look at the awesome games that came out on the PS2 just before the PS3 came out. That alone is reason enough to delay the next gen as long as possible.

that is the reason i do not want to spend money, not on something that still does not know what it can do, let alone whether what it can do needs to be done in the first place :P

I'm sorry but 9 out of 10 current gen sequels are worse than their PS2/Xbox prequels, and I don't even need to bring metacritic to support that statement. Which brings us back to same old argument, looking good has nothing to do with being good.

i think mirror's Edge would have been wonderful if it was a third person action adventure, the idea of a first person action adventure was nice but it got just to fussy

moreover the difficulty was over the top :)
