hmmm, I quite didn't like the final chapters of the witcher 1 as well (the one with all the fighting going on). Maybe thats CDP's style - mediocre final chapters. Anyway let us see....plan to complete it today.... LA Noire's waiting for me...!

Alright, completed the game. Only one word - 'awesome'. Worth every penny. Improvement over the predecessor in every way.

And contrary to many opinions, I liked the third act as much as the others. It was short compared to others, but they answered most of the plot's questions. And just as I had expected they couldn't tie all the loose ends, setting the stage for an obvious sequel (for which the anticipation is even higher now).

All in all - a must play game for RPG lovers. My only nitpicks are the very steep learning curve at the beginning & the leveling system (I didn't like it that much, found it way too easy and the alchemy skill tree was more or less wasted). But apart from that , its excellent. The quests are well thought of , the lore is intriguing and the pacing is spot on, never once would you feel bored. The overall length of the game was decent as well. The lack of unwanted fetch quests also helps in focusing on the the main quests and immerses you more in the world, which is how it should be in these kind of games. The sense of urgency is felt throughout.

One of the best games this gen. Will give it some time before starting the game to discover the alternate paths.

@Ne0, are you sure all the questions are answered? I doubt that the dragon's origin is touched upon in Roche's path.

And yes this is the best RPG in a long time. But I'd still rate the original Witcher higher than this. It had a special charm... maybe it was the folksy music and the atmosphere. I found The Witcher 2 too 'epic' (for the lack of a better word) whereas the Witcher 1 felt more grounded and gritty. Both are excellent games no doubt.

Its explained in the end as to who controlled it and let it loose on the kingdoms.

But if you want origins, you've to play the bioware's game :fear:

LOL, I finished the game before that hit. Only thing that would've helped is the checkpoint before the draug fight. That was a real bitch to take down, also a very satisfying combat :D

I thought the boss fights were well done. The Kayran fight had a good setup and was good before the QTE started. After that it felt rushed. Letho was a pretty interesting fight too since he used the same abilities as you. The only fight that disappointed me was the dragon.

Although I must say that fighting the Endrega queens for the first time in Chapter 1 was more difficult than any of the boss fights in the game.

the draug was a pretty boring boss fight if you ask me. much like all the others in the game.

also, 9.4gb patch

Not as boring as the dragon boss fight. That was so damn tiring and tedious. Quen+roll+right click. Repeat ad infinitum.

wasn't the draug pretty much the same? quen + run around when he does aoe, trap + slash like crazy when he charges?

yes, but the dude sometimes summons a slew of fireballs or arrows and he gallops all over the area, making you run around. The dragon was lame on the other hand, stuck at one place, only gnawing at you once in a while. It was basically a sitting duck.
