It's like an Ouya console (possibly with better dev support coz of Amazon) + Apple TV (with media apps like Netflix, Pandora, Hulu etc).

Vita tv is basically the same thing except that it plays ps games instead of android games :P

^^ :good: I totally forgot about the Vita TV. Haven't heard much about it lately.

Also, the Vita TV does PS4 game streaming too :panic: They better bring it to other places in the world asap. :threatenlumber:

True. It is a pretty exciting product. There is no doubt that they would be bringing it to other countries.

So I am guessing India price (if and when it makes it here) would be around 8-10k? Honestly, not seeing the point. You can get better/cheaper media players than that. And its not much of a games console either.

Can I stream stuff off PC/tablet etc over Wi-fi without Amazon cloud?

You can do that with the PS3/Xbox 360 right now with PS3 media server.

I think this device is more targeted for casual media consumer with occasional light gaming here n there. Off course for any hardcore techies there will much better options to get the things done in much cheaper and better way. But at the same time, not everyone has that level tech know how and ready for such investment. But the main turn around will be the availability of exclusive contents specially in terms of Video and Games. Since all the major Amazon services are not available in India as of now, this product is almost irrelevant for us.

Any idea if the fireTV supports HDMI-CEC? :scratchchin:

@piper: yes, but the fireTV is what will be easier to use, for less tech-savvy people. The Chromecast needs another tablet/phone to be able to play anything.

Edit: For the first time ever, the IVG search engine showed this thread as the first option when I searched for "fire TV" :dance: . It's never happened to me before. Ever.

15 games worth playing on Amazon’s Fire TV

<snip>

Amazon now lists Fire TV-compatible apps on its online store, including dozens of video channels and a quickly expanding list of over 100 "bonus" games. As expected, there's a lot of forgettable Android shovelware among the Fire TV's initial gaming lineup and few exclusive titles. Still, there are some standouts that we've enjoyed on other platforms like iOS and Ouya, including:

Nice line up, it looks like Amazon games will be mostly competing with Nintendo games - low on graphics - fun gameplay

Wii u is as powerful if not more than ps3 and 360. Upcoming Mario kart 8 is one of the most beautiful games out there. I fail to see how android games compare to nintendo games. Just because nintendo's consoles are less powerful than sony's or ms doesn't mean that one would straight up compare android games with them or even put them in the same line.
