If 69XX GPU are used then it would be doomed from the start the 79XX is a deadly series from amd ati , for the nextbox & PS4 to last at least 5-7 years in this current stage of rapid h/w development it needs some secret technology which is not public yet at the time of the consoles launch

Console hardware architecture is different from PC but ya 6670 is quite weak compared to latest DX11 gpu's :) ...

OK, some insider info, from few friends at MS. Been told that current plan is to get rid of optical drives for good. They are looking for feasibility of memory cards as a solution. System will be so so faster but only problem is cost of mass production, and security. 20$ for a 16gb card means 100$ will be game's mrp. Bright side is that reading times will reduce, so, they can do away with cheaper console, may be in the range of 200$ to begin with, plus the performance! If they can find a solution to get 5$ cost for 16gigs card, we can have xbox 720 the size of tablet.

What about heat management then? They need good quality fans to manage heat, and with a size of tablet, thats impossible. Frankly, I dont mind the size of the consoles. As long as they dont get damaged due to heat, I will be happy with whatever size they come up with. There is enough space on my TV stand for a console.

The major reason why the early 360s failed a lot is because of poor quality finishers (mainly soldering material), otherwise they managed heat pretty well IMO.

Do you really think it will be exactly the same size as a tablet? What is meant by my earlier post is that it will very small sized console, with lot less moving parts, may be couple extra centimeters wider than tablet. They need just enough space to accomodate two small fans. Every other option like ports, power socket can be a variable in design. Ok, may be a lunch box shape instead of tablet be a better option. Or I don't know, may be they will just decide to add kinect directly, if the size is small enough, as heat management will be done by same unit. Lunch box just next to tv, will look good too, plus bom looks quite less in that scenario. If it comes down to 100$ or less, you can expect the console to be available with inbuilt kinect for just 300$ starting price. And it will stl have twice the performance of current gen. :)

Choron ka Raja what u are talking about is the Nextbox STB (like the apple tv) It will play all the Xbox360 games , arcade games and Kinect 2.0 games . It will be next gen kinect centric console which will also enable u to watch netflix ,hulu, etc.

The other costlier sku will be truly a next gen console .

Btw all this is still a rumor , no concrete news yet

But the way MS has handled the Xbox 360 in 2011 making it more of a multimedia device plus appealing the casual audience , this rumor of two different skus seems to be true :)

Why use memory cards , no man has ever kept the TV Remote where he can easily find it , we all lost it in the room sometimes , so why make small cards which we can easily lose , what then do we have to buy the game again or at least we can keep some backup of them on another card ? and 16 GB Just , man sony was right going with the BD ROM & 50 gigs , MS is going bonkers these days

Plan is to go for only one sku, a do-everything device. although, a cheaper sku with features missing, is definitely an option. MS always f**ks it up, with cheaper version of every product.

form factor, dude. its all about the form factor. plus, it will be just to copy the said data to inbuilt disk, then download license to play. or you can just skip the memory card part, if you want to download the full game. currently, they are discussing a lot of ideas for software ecosystem, as the base hardware config is finalized already. Plan is to sync every singe platform, so I don't think they will rather care much about performance. After all, MS consider it as a entertainment solution instead of gaming console, so do not expect very high performance in games.

Well according to new reports, Next box might not allow you to play used games..

Rumor has it the next-generation Xbox may limit exactly what kind of games you're allowed to play. According to sources speaking to Kotaku, the Xbox 360's successor will have some kind of anti-used-game enforcement. There's no explanation of what that means, but speculation surrounding the issue says the console could outright reject used-games altogether.

Online passes are a recent staple in staving off used sales. Limiting what used buyers can access is a protective measure for publishers, much to the chagrin of parts of the gaming community. Chris Kohler of Wired argues that the death of used games is inevitable, and passes are the first step toward something exactly like a native anti-used game something integrated into consoles. He notes, of course, that digital is the future of buying games, but in the meantime we may be looking at "an interim period in which the disc as a delivery method is still around but...becomes more like a PC game, which are sold with one-time-use keys that grant one owner a license to play the game on his machine."

For all we know, if this is legitimate, such a theoretical link between a Gamertag and new game would simply negate the need for online pass redemption codes in every game. This alleged feature comes alongside talks that the Xbox 3 will also turn to blu-ray for its primary format.

Until Microsoft officially unveils details about its much-rumored new device, we're relying on speculation with strong rhetoric to figure out the future of gaming. Would a console permanently banning of used-games be a deal-breaker for you?

NextBox will support Blu-Ray :good:

Following yesterday’s rumors, “game industry sources” have told Kotaku that the next Xbox will support Blu-ray, ditching the DVD format.

Blu-ray discs can hold anywhere between 25 and 50 gigabytes of data, whereas DVDs can only hold 9 gigabytes. PlayStation 3 is the only console this generation to support the format.

The next Xbox will ship with the next version of Kinect, according to “one source familiar with Microsoft’s plans for the new Xbox.” It will feature an on-board processor, which would allow it to better track users’ actions.

Microsoft is also looking to include some sort of anti-used games system. The site’s source was not clear on how Microsoft intends to implement it. Theoretically, you could link the game to an Xbox LIVE account, but that would force you to be online every time you play; or it wouldn’t allow family members to play the same game.

Microsoft is also keen on making the controller smaller, according to the source.

The source also echoed yesterday’s IGN report, going as far to say that the next Xbox might even be eight times more powerful than Xbox 360. Though, another insider clarified that developers have yet to receive development kits and any current talk of specifications is purely hypothetical.

Next Xbox to ship with a button-less controller?

According to a reliable source high up in Microsoft, the follow up console to the Xbox 360 will feature a complete controller redesign. The face buttons on the controller are to be replaced with a touch pad. Our source indicates that the triggers of the controller will remain intact as they are but the controller will now be a hybrid of touch controls and physical buttons. The controller stick layout is supposed to be the same as the current Xbox 360 console controller. Our source indicates that this was done to combat the WiiU controller which is also supposed to feature touch input. The console is supposed to launch late in 2013 with developer kits heading out later this year. According to our source the hardware specifications appear to be inline with the recent rumors we have heard.

We are waiting confirmation from Microsoft regarding the same.

Source.

what the *bleep*? :O
