ABOUT

No Man’s Sky is a game about exploration and survival in an infinite procedurally generated universe.

A TRULY OPEN UNIVERSE

Whether a distant mountain or a planet hanging low on the horizon, you can go there. You can fly seamlessly from the surface of a planet to another, and every star in the sky is a sun that you can visit.

Where you’ll go and how fast you’ll make your way through this universe is up to you. It’s yours for the taking.

EXPLORATION IS SEEING THINGS NO ONE HAS EVER SEEN BEFORE

Explore uncharted solar systems and catalogue unique new forms of life. Every planet’s landscape is different from the next, and populated by species never before encountered.

Find ancient artefacts that could reveal the secrets behind the universe.

Choose whether to share your discoveries with other players. They’re exploring the same vast universe in parallel; perhaps you’ll make your mark on their worlds as well as your own.

SURVIVE ON A DANGEROUS FRONTIER

Every solar system, planet, ocean and cave is filled with danger, and you are vulnerable.

Your ship and suit are fragile, and every encounter can test your skills to the limit. From dogfighting in space to firstperson combat on a planet’s surface, you will face foes ready to overwhelm you.

And one mistake could see you lose everything. In No Man’s Sky, every victory and every defeat has lasting consequences.

BUILD FOR AN EPIC JOURNEY

Whether you want to explore and see things never before discovered, or directly set course for the centre of the galaxy, how you play No Man’s Sky is up to you.

But you cannot take your voyage lightly. You’ll need to prepare.

Collect precious resources on the surfaces of planets and trade them for the ships, suits and equipment that will take you to your destiny in the stars.

THE TEAM

No Man’s Sky is being developed by Hello Games, a tiny indie studio in Guildford, UK. We previously made the Joe Danger series, but now we’re casting our eyes to the heavens. Find out more about us here.

How did the Joe Danger devs move from a small PSN/XBLA title to something this big O.o?

+1

still being done by a 4 man team afaik. no way they're doing it without some big publisher/platform holder's support though. i think they jus dont want to announce it yet.

Some more info here -

So how will you orientate yourself in such a massive, bewildering place? In truth, it might come fairly naturally - for starters, you won't be alone. Everyone who plays No Man's Sky will begin the adventure on their own planet at the edge of a shared galaxy. For most people, the obvious hook will be to carve a path to the centre of the galaxy where there will be something waiting for them. Along the way, you'll discover that this universe has rules, and you'll have to work together with other players - other frontiersmen - to find out how the place fits together and how it all works. You'll be building from scratch, too. When you initially load up the galaxy map, all the systems and planets are there, but nothing's labeled. Filling in the blanks is up to you - up to everyone.

...

"The universe as such will be a really dangerous place for you," he continues. "It will start out not so dangerous, but as you try to journey to the centre of the galaxy, things will mutate a lot more and will make your gameplay experience much more dangerous. Undertaking that trip will require lots of preparation. It will require you to, without going into too much detail, build up your character, build up your ship. I don't know how much I want to say about how you go about doing that, but you will have to co-operate with other people to make that journey. You will feel very vulnerable in this universe, and not necessarily empowered, but you will have the ability to travel great distances very fast and you have a lot of freedom." He pauses for a second, considering things. "A lot of freedom but maybe not masses of power."

Although I like the game and the concept, but there are some problems and loop holes regarding All-Procedural system.

But a four-man team has proved that you don't need big budget or 1000 people team to create a massive world and such a big game!

Aaand just like that, all interest dead. :/

According to the folks at giantbomb, the devs were being pretty cagey regarding that particular point, probably because they haven't decided yet. They were speculating on the podcast that it could be some sort of asynchronous MP.

No Man's Sky won't be delayed

Despite the weather's best efforts to ensure that the impossibly exciting No Man's Sky sinks without trace, Hello Games are soldiering on, promising the game won't suffer a delay as a result. Take that, The Universe, you damp wet jerk. In a blog post yesterday, Hello's Sean Murray addressed concerns over the project, while revealing that there are no plans for a Kickstarter for the game.

Despite losing "all our PCs, laptops, equipment, furniture, dev-kits, work in the blink of an eye" in a particularly nasty flood over Christmas, the team at Hello Games have picked themselves up and gone straight back to work. Everyone assembled over Christmas," explains Murray, "and we’ve been working super hard since. Right now we have set ourselves up at a new temporary (cramped!) location. Some of us are working from home. We’ve filled a couple of dumpsters with our old stuff, and built ourselves a make-shift post-apocalyptic set of workstations – but we’re back, full speed!"

A delay would be understandable under those circumstances, but Hello Games, determined not to let the flood get the better of them, which shows remarkable strength of character from the Joe Danger devs. Murray also responded to queries about the team starting a Kickstarter, there won't be one.

No Man's Sky doesn't have a release date - at least not a public one - so a delay would have likely gone unnoticed anyway.
