Too late for Narendra Modi to express pain over 2002 riots: Kapil Sibal

New Delhi: Claiming that it was "too late" for Narendra Modi to be saying that Gujarat riots had shaken him to the core, Union Minister Kapil Sibal today attacked the BJP Prime Ministerial candidate saying his recent comments in a blog were only a belated reaction before Lok Sabha polls.

"Modi's riots baggage will remain. It is too late for him to express that he was shaken to the core. Had that been so, the core would have reacted in time, not a belated reaction just before the Lok Sabha elections," Mr Sibal said in a write-up on his website. (Read Mr Sibal's blog here)

The "pain and agony" reflected in Mr Modi's blog is for an audience whose sympathy will be vital in May, 2014, the Union Law minister added.

He further said that pain was heartfelt, spontaneous and an emotion that is expressed without calculation.

"Pain can never be a belated reaction after 11 years of silence. And a person who suffers in silence cannot remain silent for 11 years. While I do not want to be cynical in my comments, I do not want to be dishonest either. This act of liberation does not connect us with the real Modi," he said.

Mr Sibal was reacting to a blog post written by the Gujarat Chief Minister in which he said that he felt "liberated and at peace" in the wake of the clean chit given to him by a local court in a case related to the 2002 riots and claimed he was "shattered" by the blame laid at his door for the killings.

Mr Modi, who has avoided questions from the media on the issue for over a decade and had never said sorry or apologised for the riots, had in the blog said that he was "shaken to the core".

Referring to Mr Modi's blog, Mr Sibal said that he wondered which sisters and brothers the Gujarat chief minister was addressing when he talked about his personal pain.

The sisters and brothers of those who lost their lives needed the healing touch and, that too, immediately after the riots, Mr Sibal said, adding that "11 years is too late".
Harami... Tera party aur gandhi family abhi tak 1984 ka riots ke liya logon ko javab nahi de paya... 30years hone ko aye... Modi ke upar ungli uthane se phela apne mai baap se jawab mango.

If I was you

I wouldn't be really happy about all this

These MLA's won majorly coz of the face value of Arvind Kejriwal

& he had a tremendous momentum & popularity following Anna's 13 day fast

All this can also turn foolishly idiotic decision & collapse at any given day

& the way ppl are expecting it to become national rejuvenation is also a scary thought

Their talk their walk their attitude their way of luring inn the poor & homeless reaks of the communist parties that never picked up in India

They want to creat a largely weird atmosphere of Rich Vs Poor

Obviously poor are the ones with majority votes

try to be a little optimistic my friend, cynicism is fine, but constant pessimism can only only hurt in the long run :-/

Nepal is paradise destroyed. Maoists fuelled with support of China toppled the monarchy and turned it into yet another confused state. Pity.

Nepal, Srilanka and Bhutan can be really good allies but India doesnt do enough for them I feel.

On other hand, allows unchecked illegal immigration of Bangladeshis.

Indian leaders are so caught up with the game of power that they fail to attend to the foreign policies.

India had one time was ready to protect Bhutan from China...but Bhutan was not confident of India's capability to fight war at two fronts (pakistan and china) which is fair enough...we cant even stand for ourownseleves ...bhutan ko kya protect karega......India never dared to play a major role in Asia .China got way ahead in this. Had our leaders had any vision for this country ...today Asia would see two rising power instead of one...

Nepalese people are dumb enough to become a confused state. same with Syria. Sri lanka is going good. infact, they are beating India in textiles and various other export goods. Bhutan is well-off and doesnt need india to come in.

mumbai police commissioner bitch slapped by high court.

Alright then, Mumbai can party till 5 am. The tussle between the Mumbai Police and city hotels and restaurants over the New Year deadline has been resolved with the Bombay high court ruling in favour of hotels and restaurants. All establishments can stay open till 5am tonight.

The Indian Hotels and Restaurants Association (AHAR) moved court after the police said they were firm on their stand of keeping 1.30am the deadline for hotels and bars, considering womens safety and to curb drink-driving cases.

Mumbai Police commissioner Dr Satyapal Singh on Monday said, My views are very clear on the matter. For womens safety and to prevent drink-driving cases, among other things, I took this decision. Last year too, the deadline was 1.30am.

He added, however, that there is no specific terror input with regard to New Year.

The government has however banned beach parties.

So you mean its OK that we don't have good bilateral ties with neighbors?

That's so wrong.

If you are not in the best of terms with a neighbor, he will turn a blind eye towards anti-India elements in his country. Nepal was becoming a hub of terrorist activities and still being used as a safe haven by fugitives, most recently Yasin Bhatkal was picked from there.

Bhutan, even after having free-trade with India, is attracting Ulfa and Bodo insurgent groups.

Full Report on Kolkata rape case. http://www.ndtv.com/article/cheat-sheet/kolkata-16-year-old-rape-victim-s-father-says-his-daughter-was-set-on-fire-by-her-attackers-465720?curl=1388579965 Kolkata: 16-year-old rape victim's father says his daughter was set on fire by her attackers

  1. The girl was allegedly gang-raped twice by the same set of men in October. Her family had earlier said that she set herself afire on December 23 after two months of incessant harassment by friends of six men arrested for allegedly raping her. They wanted the charges withdrawn. The girl died at a hospital yesterday.

  2. Her father, a taxi driver and member of CITU, has alleged that last evening, when the family was taking her body to a mortuary, cops intercepted the hearse and hijacked it to the crematorium in an attempt to cremate her. They couldn't do so because they did not have a death certificate, the family alleged.

  3. The police, the family said, brought the body back to their home after five hours last night, at about 2.30 am.

  4. This morning, the father left home at 6 with the body for the crematorium. He was accompanied by the police, which barricaded the crematorium amid chaos to prevent CITU leaders from taking the girl's body.

  5. They finally allowed the family and CITU to take the body to the union's office. After being kept there for over three hours, the body is now being taken back to the crematorium for last rites. A protest procession is being held separately.

  6. The police have denied that they took the girl's body to the crematorium last night without the family's consent. "The police was not in a hurry to cremate the body. The local police got in touch with the family. On the basis of the family's wish, the body was brought to the cremation ghat," Joint Commissioner Kolkata Police Rajiv Mishra said.

  7. The distraught parents have demanded the death sentence for the rapists and for those who tormented the teen so much that she killed herself. Apart from the six men accused, two men have arrested on charges of harassing the girl. The parents said today, "We want the accused to be hanged till death."

  8. The National Commission for Women's Mamata Sharma said she will write to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to seek an explanation "within 48 hours on what action the state government is taking to prevent such cases....The girl must have been very traumatised. If she had been given proper counselling, she would perhaps have not committed suicide."

  9. The girl's father met Governor MK Narayanan today to lodge a complaint against the police. He has also filed a complaint of medical negligence against the superintendent of the hospital where the girl died of burn injuries.

  10. Mukul Roy, senior leader of the ruling Trinamool Congress, said, "The accused are in the jail, and a chargesheet has been filed against them. The situation is very unfortunate and is not at all expected but it should be carefully seen what the government is doing regarding this."
