In 2004, the original Star Wars Battlefront came onto the scene and took gamers – and Star Wars fans – by surprise. It was an ambitious action shooter that gave players the opportunity to step into the shoes of their favorite Star Wars characters, pilot quintessential Star Wars vehicles, and relive classic Star Wars battles.

Fast forward nearly 10 years and gamers still have many of those same Star Wars gaming fantasies – but now they wish to experience those larger-than-life battles in magnificent high definition, with all of the amazing special effects, vehicle physics and gameplay intensity that the next-generation has to offer.

Star Wars Battlefront, developed by DICE on Frostbite 3, will surprise and delight fans yet again with a new experience inside this beloved universe made with our signature DICE craftsmanship and commitment to excellence.

No other launch details were mentioned, however.

Star Wars: Battlefront Won't Be Reskinned Battlefield

"We don't want Star Wars plus Battlefield, "because that would be boring, right?" says Bach.

Battlefront is still in early development, so its unlikely we will hear more on the game for a while - especially as DICE is currently putting the finishing touches onto Battlefield 3, and working on the recently announced Mirror's Edge 2 . Still, the studio is taking its time, looking "at the history of the Battlefront franchise to reverse engineer it... to find out what it was supposed to be," says Bach, adding. "[We are still] figuring out what we want to build."

2014 is going to be great year.

I really hope they mean that. I honestly dont think there are too many other developers than can do a good Battlefron game other than Dice. But its a far cry from the BF series. It needs to have its own personality.

"Little is known about the game, save it's in the early stages of development, is built using the Frostbite 3 game engine and will be released for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One".

So no cross gen. Sooner developers adopt this the better it will be.

No cross gen has nothing to do with the developers wanting the best version. Its only VERY recently that EA got their hands on the Star wars franchise. And Dice has its handful between upcoming BF 4DLC, ME2 and future BF titles.

I doubt this game is gonna get released before 2016 at the earliest unless its a rush job. Thats why its not cross gen.

Next-gen Star Wars: Battlefront due in summer 2015

EA CFO Blake Jorgensen says new game from DICE will "most likely" debut around same time new movies release in two years.

The all-new next-generation Star Wars: Battlefront game from Electronic Arts and developer DICE will "most likely" release in summer 2015 alongside the new films, CFO Blake Jorgensen said today during EA's annual stockholder meeting.

Jorgensen said the Battlefront series, in the past, has performed "extremely well."

Beyond a brief teaser trailer for the game at E3, EA and DICE have remained quiet on what the new Star Wars Battlefront game will offer. EA Games executive Patrick Söderlund said last month that EA and DICE are conceiving the project as a "rebirth of the brand."

EA's Star Wars deal is 10 years long, won't focus on 'movie games'

"The beauty of the Star Wars franchise is it's so broad and so deep you don't have to do a movie game," Jorgensen said. "You can do a game that's very focused on the world that's been created around Star Wars."

Jorgensen said EA's games would take advantage of marketing surrounding the films' releases, but wouldn't necessarily target a film's release date for its titles.

"We struck what we believe is a fantastic deal," Jorgensen said, "which allows us to be able to build games in many different genres across multiple types of platforms over 10 years and will leverage the strength of the Disney marketing associated with the Star Wars properties, both in movies and other things that they made do over the timeframe.

"We'll try to align those with that marketing power that Disney has, but it won't necessarily be aligned with the movies."

EA has confirmed it's developing Star Wars Battlefront, a shooter set in the franchise, which is slated for a summer 2015 release.
