Let's share what we tinkered with recently. Should be fun :)

I'll start with my most recent one over this weekend:

(Reverse engineering Samsung's DLNA protocol extensions specific to displaying alerts on the idiot box natively.)

^^ You did not tell me.

How was it?

Installation went well, my main concern (thermal paste application) wasn't much as I managed to apply the paste evenly onto the CPU. And then placed the heatsink and tightened the screws. And then remembered that I'd forgotten to take the plastic off the bottom of the heatsink. This culprit :

Yes, I can read what it says. We are all human...

Anyhow, removed the heatsink and retouched the thermal paste. Temperature readings

Idle

Stock HS : 45-50

212 EVO : 35-40

Load

Stock HS : 65-70

212 EVO : 50-55

Cool....how did you reverse engineer it? Is the code open sourced?

Code is closed and no documentation. Good old upnp inspector and wireshark.

wow, such dedication :clapping:

I try so many things, but I have this problem with losing focus/interest after some 10% into it .... have a bunch of diy/side projects lying in my pc. Not sure when will I get around to completing any of them :(

Ok so it's still click click here as well. The only complex part was Unix user and group permission stuff.

Did you start from scratch, or turn a 2D image into a more lifelike '3D' one?

This is from scratch if my knowledge has not become totally redundant.

From scratch, but since its a gradient mesh painting, had to use a real reference for the shapes and colors.

Took about 14 hours to get the colors right.

Everything is made using the gradient mesh except the filament wires on the top, for those I used a normal 3 tone linear gradient as they are too small to be noticed unless you look carefully.
