Overview from MMOStation

Black Desert Online is a free-to-play fantasy MMORPG
with amazing graphics and a large scale sandbox world to explore. The
first game from the Pearl Abyss studio (founded by by the original
producer of Continent of the Ninth) includes a variety of features, from
spectacular horse riding (including horse-drifting, a feature inspired
by Red Dead Redemption) and combat to strategy-oriented
castle sieges, trading, the option to buy any house in the cities and
more. There’s even a parkour element to the character movement, much in
the way we’ve seen in Assassin’s Creed.

Explore some magnificent landscapes and architectures with some of the most breathtakingly realistic characters with different abilities, from Fighters to Sorcerers, Beasts and Tamers.
There’s optional PvP and bind-on-equip items that don’t drop if you’re
killed by another player.

You’ll be able to buy any property in
the cities and even transform it into a shop or crafting area and even
create furniture to store your treasure. In the open world the only
option is to make a temporary tent.

Black Desert Online is a beautiful MMORPG that seems to have an incredible depth to it.

Nice, more MMORPG games.

Some info.

  • The game is based on action combat, and similar to TERA in that aspect, but Black Desert Online is more focused on PvP and castle sieges.
  • Pearl Abyss is using a proprietary engine for Black Desert Online.
  • There’s a night and day cycle and dynamic weather.
  • There are typhoons wandering the world map. At the moment they don’t touch the landmass, but in the future they will, and they’ll affect combat and movement. The world map (which is one of the best I’ve seen for a MMORPG) has also a very stylish way to show the time of the day.
  • There are ships traveling the rivers, but they’re just NPC-driven methods of transportation. They can’t be controlled by players.
  • The game has free for all PvP, but the team is still discussing penalties and balance in order to minimize stress for users. At the current stage you can engage in PvP only after level 40, but that might change in the future.
  • Pearl Abyss is still in the process of finding a publisher for the west, and they’re discussing it with many parties, but they still didn’t sign a deal. They are determined to bring the game to the western audience.
  • The upcoming beta will be limited only to Korean citizens, and blocked by IP.
  • The team is considering bringing the game to PS4 and Xbox One, but before that they need to have the PC version stable and working. They already had a meeting about this with Sony about a console version, while they didn’t yet meet with Microsoft (they did meet with the Windows publishing team, but not with the Xbox One team).
  • The game features a “NPC Intimacy System” displayed by the UI. The system measures the relationship between a player and every NPC. Players will acquire knowledge on several areas and topics during gameplay and NPCs are interested in receiving that information. By providing it, players can increase their intimacy level with the NPCs and receive special items and rewards in exchange.
  • You can siege castles, but you can’t completely destroy them. You can just tear down some sections.
  • The game has fashion slots that allow you to purchase fashion items in the cash shop that will change the appearance of your equipment. Fashion items grant a small increase in stats (just one or two points).
  • Character creation is limited at the moment, because the game is still in alpha. More options will be provided as development progresses.
  • Classes will have a male and a female version. Male and female classes will have different features.
  • The team is looking into implementing female giants, but they will only do so if they manage to find the right design.

BETA will be only for Korean users, meh.

Sadly they ban players from India :( they only make games available in certain regions. I got banned from vindictus a while ago

LOL why?

Many korean ftp games have better customization(esp females :P) than paid games like guild wars and all.

Character models look great but environment not so much.

I think they can't afford to provide servers to all countries. That's why they usually ban players from other countries than the list of countries they make the game available for. lol India would never make into that list as no one plays such games here.

But if it comes to consoles then they will not be able to ban you from playing the game....

lol India would never make into that list as no one plays such games here.

True..ESO is out and no one is playing it here except JoeCool lol

Guys, Korean MMOs barely make it to NA (north america). Theres a WHOLE different concept of gamerz in East n West, by concept i mean : subscription, mentality, gameplay approach. Most good F2P MMOs of east make to west after 2.5yrs or even more. Recent examples: Queens Blade, Blade n Soul, Arch Age, Phantasy Star Online 2. All great games of 2012-2013 but not yet even near to reaching NA.

Refering to NA, I mean English as a language. Playing in India even tho we are super close to japan......no one gives a sh*t about us. We can only play in NA servers when it goes beta after....u can guess...2-3yrs. So, its no use posting these games now.

I read in wiki that the company is in talks with Sony to bring this to ps4. Hope they port some nice f2p games to consoles next gen.

Consoles next gen: all these consoles shall and will and always be PS. 1% chance they will go to Microsft. There is a huge war in F2P MMOs: East(Sony PS) vs West(MS Xbox)
