Mass Effect: Andromeda

HOLIDAY 2016

Studios - Bioware Montreal

Publisher - EA

Release Date - 2016

Mass Effect 4 has an official name and release window. Mass Effect: Andromeda, announced during EA’s E3 press conference, has been announced for a Holiday 2016.

The reveal trailer showcases an N7 soldier navigating a galaxy map, readying their weapon, and heading to a planet’s surface to fight and drive the series’ notorious Mako. Much of this reveal aligns with the recent survey leaks, which suggested the next Mass Effect would take place in the Andromeda system. For the full, potentially spoiler-filled details on that, check out the full breakdown on IGN.
The main character’s race remains unknown, so whether this is another human-centric story remains to be seen.
Mass Effect: Andromeda is in development at BioWare Montreal, which has been revealing details for Andromeda for years

Here's a message from Aaryn Flynn, Studio General Manager, BioWare Canada, and Yanick Roy, Studio Director, BioWare Montreal, about the game. The pair confirm you play as a human, male or female, and the game takes place far away from and long after the events of the original trilogy.

  • While we aren't ready to go into too many details just yet, as you saw in the trailer and can tell by the name, this game is very much a new adventure, taking place far away from and long after the events of the original trilogy. You will play a human, male or female, though that's actually not the character you saw in the trailer (more on that later). You'll be exploring an all-new galaxy, Andromeda, and piloting the new and improved Mako you saw. And through it all, you will have a new team of adventurers to work with, learn from, fight alongside of, and fall in love with.
  • We built this trailer in Frostbite, our game engine, and it represents our visual target for the final game. We are thrilled by what we've already been able to achieve in bringing Mass Effect to Frostbite and by putting our entire focus on PC and current gen consoles. With the time remaining in development, we're excited about the possibility to push things even more.

Mass Effect fans, here is something for you today. Reddit’s moderators ‘Salsadips’ and ‘KYCygni’ were contacted and supplied with proof that a person has had contact with a very early edition of the game. And as you may have guessed, that person has leaked some new information about this upcoming Mass Effect title.

As Reddit’s moderator ‘Salsadips’ noted, the user did not want to ‘post it under an account they control, as he/she felt it would immediately be dismissed as fake and did not wish to be identified.’

Also, this information is based on an early version of the game, meaning that some changes may very well happen in the newer/final builds of the game.

We’ve also marked this story as a rumour, because nothing has been officially confirmed as of yet.

Enjoy!

  • 2 Squad mates as before, a human blonde and a krogan mentioned
  • All squad mates have jetpacks which come into play in exploration
  • Omnitool has more functionality, for example a combat shield
  • Greater detail in character facial features and models
  • Destructible covers (Yay Frostbite!)
  • Completely different ship (I take it as a step away from the frigate sized ship that we saw in Normandy and towards a larger ship, perhaps the one seen
    )
  • Hints at Mako customization
  • ‘Pathfinder quarters’ section in the ship
  • Main character is referred to as ‘the pathfinder’
  • Story revolves around finding a new home for humanity and other races
  • New ship travel system (Instead of the old galaxy map) where you manually fly the ship
  • Enemies (the main opposing force I assume) are bipedal cross between Vorcha and Collectors
  • The (non-human) enemies drop into combat from Cerberus ships (I would assume a placeholder, but if it’s not then it gets interesting)
