TERRIFYING ENEMIES OF TAU VOLANTIS: FEEDERS

The Feeder is a new enemy in Dead Space 3 and we expect him to be very popular amongst the community due to the creepiness of its behavior and the violence of its attack. Feeders are humans that got infected while starving to death on the ice planet, Tau Volantis. Having depleted all the food supplies available in their stations, these isolated humans had to resort to cannibalism to survive. The sick, infected flesh they ingested mutated their bodies and melded them into a new form of Necromorph – the Feeders. Their looks and behavior echoes their story; these skeletal creatures crawl around on all 4’s scavenging for food - cans, corpses, anything they can find in the dark corners of the way stations on the ice planet.

Feeders are blind, which makes them very sensitive to noise, light and smell. If they are startled, they attack in waves with extreme speed, agility and aggressiveness. When attacking a victim, their jaw stretches out from their mouth, becoming wide enough to fit a human’s head, which doesn’t stand a chance against their ravaging set of canine teeth.

Players have the choice to avoid, mislead or provoke and attack these creatures. Walking slowly and far from them will leave you unnoticed. Because Feeders use sound to navigate, players may be able to trick them and clear their path by throwing objects in the room. However, Feeders are misleading. Although they may seem calm in appearance, they can soon go into a feeding frenzy and will surprise the player by their numbers as the brood quickly gathers through vents, doors and corners once the living individual has been spotted and the alert has been given. You should think twice before making too much noise or pointing your gun’s flashlight at them. You may as well stick to the walls and hope to exit the room unnoticed if you are low on health or ammunition.
