Metal Gear Solid PS Vita listed. E3 announcement incoming?

Online retailer Play-Asia has listed “Metal Gear Solid” for the PS Vita on two different pages, one for an English and one for a Japanese language version. The “tentative” listing is separate to an already existing and distinct page for Metal Gear Solid HD on PS Vita.

Metal Gear Rising on PS Vita has been rumoured after a leaked Sony presentation but it seems unlikely the two games would be confused.

Kojima is in LA for E3 right now so maybe he’s got a few things to reveal.

Here's the screen-shot:-

E3 2012: Going Hands-on With PSone Classics on Vita

Ask, and you shall receive.

The PlayStation Network is crowded with games to download and play, but for many old-school gamers, the PSone Classics library, hundreds of titles strong, is where the action’s at. But ever since the PlayStation Vita was launched, complaints about how Sony’s new handheld couldn’t play PSone Classics remained consistently loud. Thankfully, those complaints can soon subside, because a firmware update for Vita, launching soon, will rectify the situation. At E3, Sony showed-off a new firmware-equipped PlayStation Vita with seven playable PSone Classics: Final Fantasy VII, Cool Boarders 2, Wild Arms, Arc the Lad, Tomb Raider, Jet Moto and Twisted Metal 2. I spent a brief amount of time with Final Fantasy VII, and what I found is pretty much what you’d expect. Final Fantasy VII looked and played just like the real thing, and that’s all you really want, right?

Interestingly, the firmware on the Vita I was using seemed to be incomplete. The Sony representative I was with told me that all manner of extras were being added to make the future firmware update as complete as possible. For instance, PSone Classics were only controllable with the directional pad on the Vita I was using, but left analog stick support was promised. PSone Classics that take advantage of L2 and R2 buttons will allow the use of Vita’s back touch pad on the left and right side, respectively, in order to replicate those buttons’ functionality. And strangely, some sort of widescreen support was promised. When I inquired whether that meant that the picture would be improperly stretched or if the support would still somehow retain PSone games’ native aspect ratio (which is 4:3), I never received a satisfactory answer.

The best news of all, however, is that if you already own a PSone Classic, whether on PS3 or PSP or both, you won’t have to purchase the game again. All you’ll have to do is connect your Vita to your PS3 or directly to the PlayStation Network and transfer the game(s) desired from your purchased items list. And if you don’t own a PSone Classic and want to play it on Vita, there will be no restrictions. Every game currently available in the PSone Classics catalog will be available for play on Vita with no exceptions.

Finally, I'll start playing MGS, see what the series is all about, and if I like it, I'll buy the HD Collection.... :good:

Vita firmware 1.8 adds PS Classics support

Update will be released in "summer"

Sony has confirmed it will add PlayStation Classics support to the PS Vita in the upcoming firmware version 1.8 update.

The platform holder mentioned the firmware during its announcement of the PlayStation 2 Game Archives service for PlayStation 3 in Japan (via Andriasang). However, it hasn't provided any specific dates for when we can expect the firmware to arrive, other than the already mentioned "summer" release window.

Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has admitted the company should have spent more time on the handheld at its E3 press conference last month.

Andrew House, Sony Computer Entertainment's CEO, recently said the Vita is not in need of re-evaluation but the company needs "to put more emphasis on the kinds of experiences that define and differentiate" the portable.

House also promised "there's a good raft of content in the works".

Pitchford Clarifies: Gearbox Waiting On Sony To Approve Borderlands Vita

Lets get this show on the road.

It sounds like the situation with Borderlands 2 on Vita is more complicated than it first seemed. Last week, we brought you news that Gearbox would love to see a Vita version of Borderlands 2, but weren't able to develop it in house – speaking at Rezzed, studio head Randy Pitchford called on Sony to get involved with the porting process. PSU followed up with Pitchford at an event for the game this week, where he revealed that three (unspecified) teams have approached the studio about the project since that appeal.

There are no direct quotes in PSU's piece, but it sounds like Gearbox need Sony to approve the port, and oversee the porting process in some way, but that they are still waiting to hear back from the company. Pitchford comments that he would have liked to have seen Borderlands 2 Vita at Sony's E3 press conference, suggesting that attempts to get the port off the ground have been going on for some time with no success.

Whether Gearbox eventually manages to bring Sony round to the idea, Pitchford was apparently clear to state that despite the enquiries of the aforementioned mystery studios, no actual work on a Vita version of Borderlands 2 is yet underway.

Come on Sony.

Another port....
