The Supernatural Thread

One of my fav things is to discuss supernatural phenomenons and incidents.

Tried to look for a thread dedicated for the same purposes, but failed to find any.

So, created this one, where I can share some incidents and trivia (that I know) with fellow IVG members.

Also, I am sure there would be many other members who would be interested in the same topic.

So let me get the ball rolling;

Chhalaava (छलावा): A Spectre With A Funny Bone.

In north India, there is supposedly a supernatural phenomenon which is called Chhalaava (Mirage).

Several stories have been heard about this phenomenon in almost every village in North India.

Why is it called Chhalaava ??

- Simple. Remember the saying "You can be anything you want."??? Well, this thing took this saying a little bit too seriously. And so it can shift its shape to any and everything. It can be a person you know, any stray or domestic animal around you. Hell, it can even be a tree. and there is no way you can spot a difference between a Chhalaava and a real thing. Its that good.

What does it do ??

- It likes to have fun. And its idea of fun is to scare others. One thing that you have to admit is that its very creative and comes with a lot of innovative ways to scare people.

Also, it likes to wrestle with people. And let me tell you, according to the legends I have herd, there is no man or even a wrestler who had ever defeated this phenomenon.

How Chhalaavas are born ??

- There are many supernatural phenomenons in India with explanations of their origins. But this Chhalaava is one tough cookie. There are many theories on how they are born;

(1) If you are a person who likes to have fun on other people's expense and die an untimely death, you become a Chhalaava.

(2) Some folks say if you are killed by a Chhalaava (shock) you are instantly recruited.

(3) It is also said, if anyone defeats a Chhalaava in wrestling, they join them.

How to tackle a Chhalaava ?

- Simple. Strip down naked. There have been many cases where the 'survivors' say they encountered a Chhalaava and when they stripped off their clothes, it left. The other way to get over a Chhalaava is not to be afraid. If you are not scared of it, it will just go away.

Example: Though I know many stories of Chhalaavas having fun, but the following is my fav incident.

There was this guy in our ancestral village. Nce and simple guy, helpful, always minded his own business.

One day before the crack of the dawn there was a knocking on his door. He opened the door and saw his neighbour who looked really worried.

This guy asked what was the matter and the neighbour replied, "My buffalo is missing."

Now losing a buffalo in a village is big deal, and so our Mr. Nice guy decided to go with the neighbour to look for the buffalo.

The neighbour suggested they should go by the 'Neher' (Canal) as there is a good chance the buffalo might be grazing there. Soon they were by the canal and what they saw in the dim light of cracking dawn was surprising.

There were like hundreds of buffaloes grazing in the field across the Neher.

"Lets go." said the neighbour but our nice guy asked him how did he know if his buffalo was among the ones across the canal. The neighbour greedily replied, "Our whole village doesnt have these many buffaloes. Clearly they are not from around here. So I dont care if my buffalo is among them or not. I am grabbing as many I can with me."

The neighbour reached across the canal and so our good Samaritan accompanied him.

But just when our guy reached the field across the canal, all the buffaloes turned into his neighbour. Now there are hundred clones of his neighbour staring at him with sinister smiles.

"What is going on?" The guy asked gathering his courage and swallowing his saliva.

The neighbour who led him there replied, "Well, I just wanted to have a wrestling match with you."

"But.. but I dont want to." the guy was sh*ting his pants.

All the neighbours burst into a sadistic laughter.

The man was slammed, bashed and tossed high in the air by many neighbours one by one.

They all took turn and wrestled with him.

When the morning took over, some passer byes noticed a battered man lying in the field across the canal.

He was brought back to the village with several broken ribs and many injuries.

He didnt talk to his actual neighbour who took him to the canal for months after this incident.

Ohh, I forgot to tell you, but besides being nice, that guy was also a renowned wrestler of the village.

He quit wrestling after this incident.

Dhubri a district in Assam (even today the name is Dhubri) named after the black magician of the same name aka Dhubri, the 'peepal' tree till date is growing 30 feet of the ground, and the stone is still there, britishers tried to move the stone, but could not, they tried to break it and blood oozed out of it and hence they left it as it is, the marks are still there at the bottom from where britishers tried to break it (see pic).

When King Chakradhwaj Singh heard the news of Raja Ram Singh’s arrival to attack him, he made all preparations to destroy him and his army. He sent for all the women of his land who were famous for their magical skills to overpower natural forces and their ability to destroy any human being. The head of these witches (practising black magicians) was Dhubri, she hurled a very heavy piece of stone measuring 3ft by 2.25ft in thickness and 25ft in length towards Guru Teg Bahadur. The stone came swinging across the sky like a missile and strck the ground at a distance of about 100 yards from the holy benefactor, so hard that nearly half of it went into the ground and the other half about 13 ft remained sticking out, at an angle of about 50 degrees. On seeing the failure of her first attempt she thus flung a Pipal tree towards him, which kept flying in the air without causing injury to anyone. The tree was later covered around with soil and to this day is growing 30 feet above the ground, and one needs to cover 3 storeys height to reach the base of the tree !!!

Damn OP. That was some scary stuff. :fear1:

Anyone here know about Bhangarh Fort?

Yup. I've heard about it and my friend has visited the place. He said the whole experience is quite chilling.

Why don't they allow people to go there after sunset? What if somebody sneaks by after sunset? Has anybody sneaked into the fort before?

There is a friend of mine, who is like pretty relaxed and chilled at all times. I've never seem him sweat at any problem and has a "I'll deal with it, no problem" attitude.

Once we were talking about ghosts and he turned pale, he said he encountered one in real life, and refused to elaborate. It's been 2 years and he hasn't ever referenced that, if we ever ask him, he just skips the topic.

If he ever tells me the story, it'll be here.

P.S: Ghosts scare me a lot, I can't even watch those third grade horror movies :fear:

The concept is called 'saaya' meaning shadow. Ok here it goes..

This was the time when we used to travel from Jaipur to Delhi in search of those computer parts which we would only get at Nehru place. So one of these trips which we usually did in my friends old golden Santro, we had successfully got what we wanted and after having dinner at a restaurant we left for Jaipur at around midnight.

As it was a weekday the highway was pretty clear and dark of course and not much vehicles were passing by. We were in total 3 friends in the car and as usual were talking about the next trip and what not. I was in the front of the car and I could notice a sardar driving a LML type scooter behind us, distance being such that I or my friend who was driving could not make out any more details.

The time was around 1 am and next what we saw was a lady in full white on the left side of the road waving her hand and as we were the only ones on road we thought it was for us. Split second decision my driver friend did not stop and kept the speed going on. Now after a km or so we noticed the sardar on the scooter not following us any more. So we all reluctantly decide to do a U turn and find out what had happened.

So the car took a U turn and as we only had an idea of the place, we looked at the dash to confirm that we covered at least a km. Now to our horror what we see on the other side of the highway is a big semi circle board sign of some kabristan . The sardar Ji not to be found anywhere for the next km as well and neither the lady. All of us tried remembering the face of the lady and none of us could remember. Also this place was deserted and there was no other road or place they could have gone other than that burial ground.

The moment was so tense and bone chilling that we drove back wrong side of the highway to get back to our side and continue our journey. Till date it gives me chills to think about it.

Nice thread. I'm a sucker for scary stories and supernatural stuff. Haven't experienced anything first hand though.

The closest I came to it was a terrifying experience of sleep paralysis. If I hadn't known about the phenomenon I would have considered it to be a supernatural experience.

It happened when I was staying with my grandparents (about 10 years ago). It was a lazy Sunday afternoon and I decided to take a nap. At some point I woke up but everything around me was fuzzy. It was the same room and I could see everything (furniture, the ceiling fan spinning etc) but the atmosphere was thick and there was a weird droning sound in my ears. The worst part was that I felt a very, very malevolent presence around me. It was just out of sight but I could hear it breathing and making sounds. It was then I realized was that I couldn't move at all. I tried to speak but I couldn't do that either. This went for (what felt like) a very long time. I surely didn't feel like a dream at all. Everything was so real. Eventually I slipped back to sleep but when I woke up I was f**king terrified. Let's just say I couldn't sleep that night.

The next day I googled it and found out about sleep paralysis. I breathed a sigh of relief knowing that it was a very common thing and almost everybody experiences it at least once (some more than others). Still I was glad that it wasn't a haunting or anything supernatural. I still get it from time to time but now I know what it is so I can wake up or slip back into sleep.
