As a result of the changes and market conditions, Sega is predicting an extraordinary loss of ¥7.1 billion ($86.4 million) for the year ending tomorrow, March 31, 2012, with ¥4.9 billion ($59.7 million) directly related to the restructuring.

Further, Sega said it plans to increase its involvement in the digital market, but did not map out anything specific .

For its fiscal year, Sega now expects revenue to come in at ¥394 billion ($4.8 billion), down from the ¥440 billion ($5.4 billion) it expected previously. Additionally, profits are expected to dip nearly 50 percent, from an originally estimated ¥38 billion ($462.6 million) to ¥20 billion ($243.5 million).

Yea just read that ... but platinum games' titles are the ones that gave sega a lot of profit , probably due to low budget ... I remember them being very happy with bayonetta numbers , so if anything they need to hire PG for more titles.

(2) Reduction of number of titles

We conducted detailed reviews of earnings projections for titles targeted toward the U.S. and European markets and decided to narrow down sales titles from the following period and after to strong IPs, such as “Sonic the Hedgehog,”, “Football Manager”, “Total War” and “Aliens” which are expected to continue posting solid earnings. In accordance with this, we are canceling the development of some game software titles.

and no PG Game didnt make much profit for Sega.

Byonetta did 1.1m in its first week ... and i remember Sega posting they were quite happy with that...

and vanquish did quite ok as well , http://ps3.ign.com/articles/113/1130396p1.html

Personally i think if Sega gave some of their older and more famous IPs to PG it might sell well and get some hype , heck this game included. PG makes amazing games , but in the current market getting a brand new ip to sell well is really hard. Familiar names like Streets of Rage,Shinobi ..etc can definetely bring in more numbers.

Also am surprised Segas overall Revenue is so much higher than EA and Acti , i guess all their other buinesses in japan must be doing well.

To be fair to them, it *is* a hard game to promote. And they've burnt their fingers on Platinum games in the past. They're probably hoping to just see this through so the contract is over and done with.

Wonder how they would've done a Streets of Rage reboot.

The world will explode coz of the sheer awesomeness. Honestly half the time PGs games dont do well coz its some new ip that releases alongside huge names. Their games would do so much better with a huge franchise name backing it up.

Interested to see how well MGR will do.
