Planning to buy a cabinet in the near future. Existing is the Cooler Master Elite 430 (without side window). Points to be considered :

Cable management options are a MUST.

Cabinet colour should be black

I have a 3.5" front USB3.0 extender, so it would be fine if the cabinet has only USB 2.0 ports.

I think in some cabinets the connectors for the HDDs are on the left side instead of facing the rear. If so, I'll prefer that.

Full tower or mid-tower, both acceptable. Would like to go for full if it is better for airflow or otherwise.

Components to be considered :

ASRock Z77 Extreme 4

Hyper 212 Evo

Seasonic S12II 620W SMPS

DVD writer

One 3.5" HDD (possibly another to be added later)

One 2.5" HDD

One 2.5" SSD

MSI 6950 Twin Frozr II (275mm/10.8" length).

Budget is 5k. Can extend it further if the features are really worth it.

^ Following in no order of preference / cost,

  • Corsair Carbide 400R
  • NZXT Tempest EVO (does not have any forward USB 3.0 ports)
  • NZXT Tempest 410 Elite
  • Cooler Master STORM Scout II
  • Cooler Master HAF 912 series (Combat / Advanced, please note these have a very high propensity for attracting dust)
  • Bit Fenix Outlaw APAC Edition (most compact case, no forward USB 3.0 ports, inverted component layout)

^ I only liked the NZXT Source 530 from the above, looks clean and efficient.

The HAF comes next in my books but the lack of dual-forward USB 3.0 means wire management issues because of the two sets of connectors you will have to juggle. Also, dust magnet.

I never liked the Phantom series (aesthetically or otherwise) because piano-plastic = pain to manage and keep clean.

Rest is up-to you. Cheers!

Why are you going for an Intel Xeon based RIG?

Where are you going to purchase the RIG from?

Following is what I suggest,

Intel Core i5 4670 / 4570 ~14500/-

GIGABYTE B85M-D3H ~6000/-

Corsair Vengeance / G.Skill RIPJAWS 4GB x2 1600MHz / 1866MHz ~2500/- (per module, higher frequency memory will be more expensive)

MSi Twin Frozr GTX760 2GB / R9-270X ~20000/- / 17500/-

Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 / Western Digital Blue Edition 1TB ~4000/-

ASUS / HP (boxed) optical drive ~1000/-

Seasonic S12II 520W ~4500/-

NZXT Source 530 ~6000/- / Corsair Carbide 400R ~5500/-

DELL S2240L ~8800/-

[audio and rest peripherals your choice]

If you want to be a bit conservative on the budget, swap the processor and motherboard for,

AMD FX-6300 ~6800/-

ASUS M5A97 R2.0 ~7500/-

[rest same as above]

Welcome to the forums, have a pleasant stay and happy gaming. Cheerio!

First option is better imo as you would get to experience both pc and console gaming. Since you havent played any of the ps3 exclusives, you should go for the first option as there are a huge list of great exclusives that you should experience and the pc is well balanced as well and you would get to play pc exclusives and multiplats at decent settings. I thought you may be knowing that Xeon E3-1230 V2 = i7 3770 which have hyperthreading. So it is faster than any available i5 in the market. Just it doesn't have integrated graphics but the tdp is also less. Where is FX-6300 available for so less price? I am going to purchase from lamington road in Mumbai. You didn't answer should I go for mid range pc + ps3 vs high mid end pc. Thanks!

I am also thinking the same but not yet sure on it. Thanks!

Talking about modded stuff is against the rules here

Sorry. I wasn't aware about this. I will read the rules now. Thanks!

Hyper-threading has no effect on games.

The iGP on the other hand is a very good redundancy factor in-case your discrete graphic card dies on you.

Local street pricing will always be lower than flipkart pricing.

About which PC to go for, unless you are getting a legit PlayStation 3 I would say go for the best PC possible in your budget. Also, the mid-range PC you had in mind has an anaemic graphic card, a GTX660 / R9-270X is minimum keeping the future titles in mind.

Cool. Which one?

I'm currently using this: Corsair Vengeance Black - 3 x 4GB. Has lifetime warranty.

Weird, box says 1600 MHz, but above screen says 1333 MHz.

Thanks.

Add another RAM stick, why do you have only three?

About the RAM being clocked @1333MHz, you will have to enter your BIOS / UEFI and manually set RAM modules to 1600MHz (you might need tweak voltage as well ~1.65v).

I thought 16GB would be overkill. Back then, games/applications required 2-4GB.

Will try to get another Vengeance stick while upgrading.

Didn't know about that. Will give it a go today.

Thank you.
