actually when you download anything from the PSN store ,after completion it installs it to your HDD just like a pc,so i think they use a method of compression for the actual download files

Oh Crap !! That means a GT5 Prologue download assuming that it'll include 150 cars and 50 tracks will eat up 17-20 GB of Hard Disk space.

In that scale, for the full version of the game, even a dual layer blu-ray wont be enuf !

Which is why they are gonna be making additional cars available via future downloads. Not all 700 cars will be available in the retail disc of the game.

thats exactly what i asked a few posts back....only a handful of cars will be available in the game disc, and u gotta pay for extra cars via psn ?? But CC said 750 cars are available at start !

If thats the case, then its great news. ;)

ya, paying extra for cars is pathetic, its like robbing u in broad daylight, pay $60 for the game and pay $5-$10 for every subset of cars....it would've set a bad precedent for games to come. Then we would see like - main mission for $60, $5 for every additional mission  !

You mean like M$ is doing with DLC on the X360 ?

ya - total rip off ! If its like an expansion pack, i can understand, but this is just daylight robbery. Even the GTA 4 dlc is the same, they could've easily put that in the game, but MS wants it to be seperate so they can rake in some extra bucks (I'm pretty sure you'll have to pay for that) !

Yup. we will have to pay for that considering the fact the M$ paid Take 2 US$ 50 million to secure the DLC exclusivity. :P

Yes, for the first time, Ferraris have made appearance in Gran Turismo. And unlike previous GT games, the grid will be full with 16 cars.

@KC, the NG installation is about 3GB, but it is only to improve load times. You can't actually play the game off it. I reckon the installer will be somewhere around 3-4 GB and the actual game might go above 5 gig.

Gamespy preview

http://ps3.gamespy.com/playstation-3/gran-...e/815915p1.html

Instead of the usual "single-player", "multiplayer", and "options" selections, you'll see a real-time 3D view of your current car set in a backdrop of your choosing (we saw the German town of Nurburg where the famous Nurburgring track is). The top of the screen shows a clock as well as the name of your home city and the temperature at your location. To the left-hand side of the screen is a calendar, this will tell you about upcoming race events that may be sponsored by Sony or car manufacturers. On the bottom is a row of seven icons.

These icons range from "drive" to "garage" and "home". The "drive" and "garage" icons are obvious. "Home" will feature some sort of connectivity with Sony's Home online service, but no details are available for now. There is a "TV" icon which will take you to car-related video content. This can include everything from a special look at certain cars to driving tips and race coverage. A photo album icon will let you check out pics of your car and a "profile" icon will lead to your profile page where you can tell people about your favorite cars and likes and dislikes, sort of like a mini-MySpace. As you can see, the developers want to encourage the community aspect of racing...........................

The biggest bit of information for "GT" fans is that the old physics engine from previous games has been scrapped and the physics engine for GT5: Prologue, and ultimately GT5, is completely rebuilt from the ground up.Yamauchi promises that the new physics engine will be even more realistic and says he's especially proud of the way the drifting physics work. During the demo he said that the team brought in a professional drift racing driver to come in and test the new physics. While playing the game the driver was able to replicate all the things he could do on an actual track in real life.

As always, the graphics for GT5: Prologue are breathtaking. Other racing games have done a good job of representing cars on the screen, but Polyphony is able to go an extra step that just makes its cars look better than everyone else's. To give us an idea of how much of a jump Polyphony is making in visual fidelity, Yamauchi pointed out the cars in Gran Turismo 4 were made up of 4,000 polygons. The cars in GT5: Prologue are made up of an average of 200,000 polygons.

Not only that, but the game supports HDR lighting and runs in 1080p at 60 frames per second. Also, the total number of cars on the track has gone up to 16. You can also now drive in a first-person cockpit view. The interiors of every car in the game will be meticulously recreated. Yamauchi drove around Suzuka Circuit in Japan in this mode so we were able to see the level of detail first-hand. It's impressive.

Polyphony has gone to great lengths to make sure that each car manufacturer involved with the game is happy with the way they're presented in GT5: Prologue. Not only are the cars recreated realistically, but pit crews and manufacturer color schemes are all included as well. When you drive a Ferrari you'll see a pit crew and garage decked out in Ferrari's red color, if you switch to a Lotus the crew will be in green and yellow and the garage will be decorated likewise. Some of the cars we saw in the demo are the Audi R8, Lotus Elise, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X, Ferrari F430, Audi TT, Nissan Skyline GT-R Proto '05 and Acura NSX.

Complaints about the "GT" series have included a high learning curve and dumb AI. Polyphony is setting out to address both issues. The AI will now be aware of the cars around it and will react accordingly to your attempts to pass it. Yamauchi said, "Without good AI, the race experience is ruined." We got to see a bit of this in action and the "bumper car" issues of the previous games didn't appear. There will also be two levels of realism, Standard, and Professional. Both are realistic, but according to Yamauchi, Standard is more "forgiving." We not so sure this will be enough for newbies who have always found the series to be difficult to approach. Hopefully the full game will have more tools to help ease in beginners.

GT5: Prologue will be a downloadable game and should be free. It will include Time Trials, Drift Trials and single race modes. In the future updates will be made available for it, also for free. These include add-ons that adjust the weather, allow for car tuning and body mods, and an update to incorporate car damage. Force feedback is very important for racing games like this and we asked Yamauchi if there were any plans to address this on the PS3. He said "it's very unfortunate (that there is not force feedback) but there's nothing we can do about it, maybe the force feedback will be brought back, there are rumors." Yamauchi also confirmed that a new racing wheel is on the way, but won't be ready until the full version of GT5 is done. We weren't given a specific US release date for GT5: Prologue but Polyphony hopes to have it ready for us by Christmas 2008.

We need Force Feedback for GT. No amount of graphical fidelity, AI and physics can compensate for the lack of tactile feedback. Just experience the acceleration forces in Forza 2. They really give you a terrific idea of the difference between a high torque car and a high revving car.
