As 2014 comes to a close, we are delighted to confirm our partnership with Mojang to create a new episodic game series based on one of the most popular video games in history - Minecraft.

Minecraft: Story Mode will be an all-new narrative-driven game series developed by Telltale in collaboration with Mojang. Set in the world of Minecraft, the series will feature an original story, driven by player choice. It will not be an add-on for Minecraft, but rather a separate stand-alone product that will premiere in 2015 on consoles, computers and mobile devices.

Telltale's game series will mix new characters with familiar themes, in an entirely original Minecraft experience, inspired by the Minecraft community and the game that continues to inspire a generation.

For more information on why Telltale and Mojang chose to work together, visit Mojang's blog.

2014 is Telltale's tenth anniversary year; seeing in the climactic finales of the critically acclaimed and best-selling The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead: Season Two. With the recent premieres of both Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands, our 2015 lineup will include the remainder of both of those new series, and now it will also include the premiere of Minecraft: Story Mode.

After ten years of making games, Telltale is JUST getting started! We would like to thank all of our incredible fans across the world, as we continue to forge ahead in creating adventures where the most important author of each story is YOU. We'll have more in the months ahead, but for now, we thank you again, and wish you a safe and happy holiday and a prosperous New Year!

I think the should concentrate at quality over quantity,

The walking dead season 1 and the wolf among us were good.

But then I think fame got them or something but TWD season 2 was pure sh*t, not even one choice felt important. Yet to play the borderlands and got, waiting for the full season before beginning them.

But this announcement really depresses me.

First Minecraft: Story Mode Details Revealed at Minecon

Unsurprisingly, Minecraft: Story Mode will follow the standard Telltale format: one narrative-driven story, released across five episodes. Players will control Jesse (not Steve), the protagonist of the story, on a quest to save the world

Here’s the full story description from Mojang:

"Players will control protagonist Jesse throughout the season, as portrayed by actor Patton Oswalt. Jesse and his group of friends revere the legendary Order of the Stone; four adventurers who slayed an Ender Dragon. The Order are the very best at what they do: Warrior, Redstone Engineer, Griefer, and Architect. While at EnderCon, Jesse and his friends discover that something is wrong... something dreadful. Terror is unleashed, and they must set out on a journey to find The Order of the Stone if they are to save their world from oblivion."

Voice talent for Minecraft: Story Mode includes Telltale alum, 80's film legends, and more. Check out the list of talent confirmed so far.

  • Patton Oswalt (Ratatouille, WordGirl)
  • Brian Posehn (Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Surf’s Up)
  • Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us, Tales from the Borderlands)
  • Scott Porter (Batman: Arkham Knight, Speed Racer)
  • Martha Plimpton (The Goonies, The Good Wife)

"We've worked closely with the amazing team at Mojang to ensure this story is a natural fit for the Minecraft world fans already know and love," said Kevin Bruner, CEO and co-founder of Telltale Games.

"As Jesse, players will steer their own path through a tale of adventure and survival; all brought to life by an all-star cast. Through Telltale's choice-based gameplay and a story spanning from the Nether to the Farlands, the End, and beyond, we can't wait for fans to experience this new take on the beloved world of Minecraft."

Owen Hill, Chief World Officer at Mojang, said regarding the collaboration: "The interactive storytellers at Telltale are giving players the chance to explore their own unique interpretation of the Minecraft universe. They've crafted a story that follows the logic of Minecraft, but still manages to feel original. It's actually pretty funny too. And the pig is adorable. We're super excited about players digging deeper into the world of Minecraft: Story Mode later this year."
