KnackChap
Final Fantasy Versus XIIIDeveloper:Square EnixPublisher:Square EnixSeries:Final Fantasy series,Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIIIGenre:Action role-playing gamePlayers:Single playerPlatform:PlayStation 3Release date:Japan 2008part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII compilation. The game is directed and designed by Tetsuya Nomura, who previously directed and designed the extremely successful Kingdom Hearts series with Yoko Shimomura scoring the music and Shinji Hashimoto handling the production.Very little information regarding the design or plot of the game has been revealed as yet, although Square Enix representatives have stated that it will be primarily action-oriented and may be the darkest Final Fantasy. From an interview with Nomura in Dengeki PlayStation 2 magazine, he has stated that he aims to create previously unseen "tricky" battle sequences, reminiscent of the CGI film, Final Fantasy VII Advent Children.[1] Various websites such as IGN have speculated that the game might be released sometime in 2008.[5]. In recent interview translations, Nomura says the game will play like a more realistic version of Kingdom Hearts with some elements of a third-person shooter similar to Dirge of Cerberus.WebsiteIGn Preview For some expectant fans, Square Enix's E3 press conference this year wouldn't be complete without the announcement of a new Final Fantasy title. Fortunately, Square Enix didn't disappoint as two different "Final Fantasy XIIIs" were unveiled. FF13 and its counterpart, Final Fantasy Versus XIII were confirmed at the end of the company's presentation along with the mobile title Final Fantasy Agito XIII. The trio comprises a new compilation series known as "Fabula Nova Crystallis," which means "The New Tale of the Crystal." Oh, and before you ask, Square Enix's assemblage will share the same mythology and run parallel to each other with intersecting plots. One of the more buzz-building facts of Final Fantasy Versus XIII that was disclosed at the conference was that the game would be designed by the pair of teams responsible for Kingdom Hearts II and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. In fact, Tetsuya Nomura was confirmed as the concept and character designer for the entire Fabula Nova Crystallis series, as well as the director of Final Fantasy Versus XIII.Nomura announced that the footage shown was designed by the Advent Children crew, while the in-game "extreme action" will be designed by the Kingdom Hearts team. He told journalists on hand to imagine what both teams could create when working together. He also provided a slight amount of insight to "Versus", which will feature a modern environment and "emotional, realistic characters and a storyline that has "bonding as the underlying theme."The entirely-CG trailer for Final Fantasy Versus XIII began with a statement describing an isolated nation protected by kings, which apparently, is the last country in the world trying to protect itself from invading heretics. The camera slowly zoomed in on a man sitting (or perhaps, slumping) on a throne, apparently dejected about events around him. Suddenly the man stands up, and walking outside of his throne room, opens the door to what appears to be a large courtyard outside filled with armed soldiers -- bodies are strewn about the stairs. It doesn't look like the odds are good for the nameless character as he walks out of his building. Every soldier in attendance turns and trains their guns on the man while he walks down the steps. However, as they open fire, every single bullet misses its mark. The camera pans up to show that the powerful figure is protected by some kind of energy shield that deflects any incoming projectiles. Suddenly the man raises his hand, and a number of swords materialized out of thin air, which quickly begins to spin around him. Just as it seems like the figure will release the weapons towards his opponents, the trailer flashes the "Versus XIII" logo and ends. The character's name wasn't revealed to journalists.Expect more on Final Fantasy Versus XIII as they become available. MarketTantrik
TGS07: Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer impressions From Joystiq http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/20/tgs07-fi...er-impressions/ ________________________________________________ Know of the old adage: save the best for last? Square Enix did just that with its incredible Final Fantasy Versus XIII presentation. In spite of being comprised of completely non-interactive and most likely pre-rendered footage, the Versus trailer absolutely stunned the audience due to its incredible sense of style. The trailer begins, telling viewers that "this is a fantasy based in reality." What could that mean? The footage begins with a car driving by, segueing to a familiar scene of the mysterious male protagonist deflecting bullets from an opposing military force. Quickly, the trailer flashes to a girl in a school outfit that seems to be awaiting someone. Latin text is interspersed throughout, fitting to the beat of both the visuals and music. Already, there's a strong sense of style and intrigue. A meticulously designed cathedral is the next scene in the trailer, and we see a mysterious hooded individual eerily similar to a character in Advent Children. All the while, snippets of the lead killing the opposing soldiers in a surprisingly gory way. We were shocked to see blood spurt out of the villains -- could this be the first M-rated Final Fantasy game? Other scenes show a friend to our mysterious unnamed lead character traveling through a desert highway, only to find the highway covered in what looks to be a newly created river. Here, we get to see the duality of fantasy and reality at play: there's a clear sense of emotion conveyed through the facial animation system, and the characters do feel quite human, in spite of the clearly fantastic events that surround them. At the end of the trailer, we finally see the male and female characters meet, glad at first. But then, as red and blue auras surround them both, a sad look of despair creeps in. We'd have to guess that these two, friends at first, are destined to be mortal enemies. A familiar, but nonetheless intriguing concept. With its stylish character designs, fantastic environmental art, a strong sense of dramatic direction, and incredibly visceral action makes Versus a game rich with potential. To evoke such a powerful response from the audience from a completely non-playable presentation means that Square Enix can have a winner on its hands: let's hope that, unlike Dirge of Cerberus, the game can deliver on such an ambitious promise. __________________________________________________________
TPM
http://maiki.livejournal.com/506159.html#cutid1 Found this in Gamespot's forums. This is a description, from someone who was in SE's closed theatre for tgs 07, of the trailers and the new characters introduced with hand drawn pictures ( not too great , but still better than nothing ). KnackChap
final fantasy games are not related to each other, the first and only direct sequel a FF game ever got was FF X-2 which was a sequel of FF X(btw is FF-12 revenant wings for the ds a sequel to FF12?) FF13 is a part of square 10 year FF13 milking policy, are currently 3 games are in the pipeline 1)FF13 2)FF vs 13(not related to FF13) 3)FF agito(cell phone, again i dont think its related to the other games)

TPM
Actually i think XIII and Vs. XIII are somewhat related. I remember reading an interview of tetsuya nomura where he states that they both take place in the same world but at 2 different times. Also in latin versus means opposite or to go against. So this game is titled versus cos unlike any previous FF, it takes a more dark and violent turn. For instance, this will be the first FF game to have blood. MarketTantrik
True. Even I stopped playing 12 after a while. It didnt have the pull of the previous FF hallmarks.
CarbonCore
FF XIII's combat is based on FF XII, so if you didn't like it in XII you may not like it in XIII. Versus' combat is based on Crisis Core though. @Sam, if you meant inverted X and O buttons, then yes, all Jap games have O for select and X for cancel, even MGS games.
