MP was brilliant, it was one of my fav games, i dunno how they are saying it sux based on the singleplayer, hell single player was boring but MP was great and thats what made it get high scores.

The single player campaign of R1 was ok and R2 was meh. Still it had a strong MP and is a franchise worth continuing. Anyway, the story was left in the middle and the game sold really well. So no reason why Insomaniac wouldn't continue it and if they learn from the previous games this could turn out to be really good.

was the MP that forgettable?

it was good, there were a lot of neat ideas in there but the problem is insomniac dumbed down & completely shafted the entire R1 cult fanbase who used to play R1 religiously for 2 years, the difference between R1 and R2 multiplayer was like night and day. the removal of the weapon wheel system, the change in how the regenerating health worked and the much slower pace of the game left a lot of core fans with a bitter taste in their mouth and they quit soon after, a lot also moved on to killzone 2. it still has a large no of players playing it regularly and is in no way dead.

Insomniac: Fans believe Resistance 2 'was a failure'

http://www.videogamer.com/news/insomniac_f..._a_failure.html

Hardcore Resistance fans believe PS3 exclusive first-person shooter Resistance 2 "was a failure", according to developer Insomniac.

That's the stark admission from senior community manager James Stevenson, who told VideoGamer.com in a wide-ranging interview that long term fan feedback "weighed" on him.

Resistance 2, released in November 2008, managed impressive review scores. Tom gave it an 8/10 in his review, calling it "a solid FPS, with moments of brilliance and some top notch multiplayer modes". At the time of writing, the game's sitting pretty on an 87 Metacritic score.

For Insomniac, however, negative fan feedback suggested Resistance 2 didn't turn out as good as the US developer had hoped.

"Resistance 2 got better reviews than Resistance 1," said Stevenson. "But the long term fan feedback from that game weighed on me.

"The hardcore fans of Resistance 1 were maybe a little bit disappointed. Those folks consistently expressing that - especially GAF - it was like your dog turned on you," Stevenson explained.

"That's the feeling of it. You had this dog that loved you. You loved the dog, too, but they expressed all this affection for you. And then suddenly the dog bites your hand and it's that feeling of, ooh, ow, that really hurts.

"The critics loved Resistance 2. Some people didn't like it, but for the most part… And the Metacritic's higher than Resistance 1. So we got better reviews than Resistance 1, but the overall opinion of it is that it was a failure by fans, that Resistance 2 was a failure, because maybe the expectations were so high for it.

"But that weights on you more. We talk to journalists a lot but we deal with our fans every day - and when they are disappointed… Reviewers are playing lots of games. They're supposed to be critical.

"But the people who put their money down on our game, want to see our game be good and want to invest months of their time into our game, spend months of their time leading up to our game watching videos, reading about it, sending us questions, listening to our podcasts, investing hours and hours and being excited for our game, if they're disappointed then it hurts more than some reviewer being pissy about a game and giving it a seven, well, okay, whatever. I can move on from that. I can ignore that. But fans that are genuinely disappointed are a lot harder to cope with."

Bravo Insomniac, bravo. very few developers would have openly come out and admitted that.

and while we're at it, here's a list of do's and dont's for R3

1) throw everything away from R2. the regenerating health, 2 weapon system etc etc & bring back the old system. in short make it more like R1 or R:R and less like cod with aliens. Bring back the NARRATOR!!!! Bring back the weapon wheel!!11!!!

2) the co-op was great but got repetitive very fast. have different set of objectives for different maps, expand the classes. and make the enemies more than bullet sponges. make it so that the teams coordinate & co operate instead of just going after XP

3) change the objectives in the 60p MP battles. that fix the beacon, defend the beacon sh*t got old real fast. make it more like MAG with a team attacking and one team defending

4) optimize your graphics engine, parts of R2 looks horrible. fix the colour palette

5) don't make the boss battles so uninspiring. make some larger than life set pieces and add some variety to the gameplay like vehicle sections etc

6) make the SP maps more open ended. R2 was linear as f**k. the series is all about scale so go crazy with those big scale battles. (like the chicago level)

7) make the game you want to make instead of letting the community make it for you. in short stop listening to everything the fans say & believe in yourselves.

8) take your time and don't rush to hit a deadline

Yup, amazing trailer. Like I mentioned in the other thread, Ubi and EA should take notes. Their Ghost Recon and MOH live action trailers were garbage. This is how its done.

It does make you think though. The game is coming next year, and they don't have an in-engine trailer to show.

peace
