Heaven Angel
Steam Machines and Steam Controller shipping December 13th "We’ve had to make the difficult decision to limit our beta to the U.S. only, because of regulatory hurdles. This was not our original plan, and it means we can’t collect beta feedback from Steam customers world-wide, which is pretty unfortunate." The time has come! We are ready to begin shipping Steam Machines and Steam Controllers to the 300 selected beta participants. The machines are due to leave the factory on Friday! Here are some photos from the production line. The 300 selected beta testers are being notified today (at about 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time) that they’ll soon receive Steam hardware and SteamOS for testing. Each selected user is also being awarded a special badge on their Steam Community profile, indicating that they’re a beta participant. In addition, a number of games that run natively on SteamOS are being added to each selected user’s library. We’ve had to make the difficult decision to limit our beta to the U.S. only, because of regulatory hurdles. This was not our original plan, and it means we can’t collect beta feedback from Steam customers world-wide, which is pretty unfortunate. All things considered, we’re sure it was the right decision, because the alternative was to delay the whole beta beyond the point when we’d be able to incorporate any feedback into the 2014 products. This decision only affects Valve’s 300 prototype units; the commercial versions of Steam Machines that are for sale in 2014 won’t be affected by this. More information on those will be announced at CES on January 6. SteamOS will be made available when the prototype hardware ships. It will be downloadable by individual users and commercial OEMs. (But unless you’re an intrepid Linux hacker already, we’re going to recommend that you wait until later in 2014 to try it out.) We’ll post info soon about that. Oh, and stay tuned for the in-home streaming beta to begin soon, too! Happy holidays. And happy unboxing to our beta testers. See you on Steam. http://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamuniverse#announcements/detail/1930088300965516570
Heaven Angel
We've seen one midrange "cheap" Steam Machine, it's time to see one high-end that goes for $1469. Digital Storm's first Steam Machine will be a $1,469 gaming PC"Rather than try to compete with console pricing, our system takes aim at the high end of the market and capitalizes on PC gaming's biggest advantage, raw performance," the company's statement reads. While details are scarce, it will come with liquid cooling for the CPU, an advanced thermal-management system of some sort, and can optionally dual-boot both Windows and SteamOS so gamers can play games for both operating systems. Options include a GeForce GTX Titan graphics card and a 700W power supply. At 4.4 inches wide, 14.1 inches deep, and 16.4 inches tall, it's a good bit bigger than an Xbox One, but it should hopefully still be able to fit into a home entertainment system lying down. We should get more when Valve announces the full lineup of Steam Machines at CES 2014 next month. http://www.theverge.com/2013/12/11/5200180/digital-storms-first-steam-machine-will-be-a-1469-gaming-pc

bippukt
Use it via paypal, it should work. Otherwise, use Entropay - that will definitely work, but you have to pay 5% extra.

ScrewyAurum
Doing all your Christmas shopping for your distant desert-island-stranded relatives who you’ve not heard from in over a decade on Steam? Well, relish the convenience while you can, because Valve’s added an option for developers and publishers to disallow cross-region gifting and trading. In addition to the obvious ramifications, this may pull the rug out from people who use those features to get around arbitrarily raised regional pricing and/or censorship. In the words of a handless person who’s just come across the world’s most pettable kitty, “bummer.” The new option was first discovered in the database of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (viaNeoGAF). The new tag, “AllowCrossRegionTradingAndGifting,” is set to “No” for Konami’s cyborg ninja absolutely-positively-not-stealth game. Before you panic, note that it only applies to Eastern Europe and South America at the moment. Prices are sometimes lower in those regions, so it may not be time to sound the alarms just yet. That said, the functionality could easily expand over time. Also of note: it apparently doesn’t apply to retail keys.
