http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/114436-Kinect-Sells-Terribly-in-Japan

Microsoft's motion sensor only sold 114,000 units in its first year.

Even though the Xbox 360 has sold better in Japan compared to its predecessor, gamers in the island nation generally prefer homegrown consoles like the PS3 and Wii. Microsoft made a huge marketing push to try to win a Japanese audience with Kinect, but, according to results published in this month's issue of Famitsu, the stunts didn't quite work. After a year of sales, Microsoft has only sold 114,000 units in Japan, accounting for about 1 percent of the worldwide Kinect sales of more than 10 million.

Perhaps the lack of sales was due to the absence of a "killer-app" for Kinect. The best-selling game in Japan was Kinect Adventures with 114,000 copies sold (because it was the pack-in title, duh) while the next was Forza Motorsport 4 with 24,900 copies. That means less then a quarter of Japan's Kinect owners coughed up the dough for a second game, which is surprising considering their predilection for dancing games.

The news isn't all bad for Microsoft though. As of June 2011, only 1.5 million Xbox 360s were sold in Japan in total so having nearly 8 percent of your customers purchase an expensive peripheral is pretty good. In contrast, with 57.5 million Xbox 360s sold around the world and only 10 million Kinect sales (16 percent of Xbox 360 owners have a Kinect), suddenly the percentage sold in Japan is not terrible.

No sh*t Sherlock. You can't render a barely 9 month old game useless because you wanted a more sophisticated way to wh*re your sh*t out. At least with SF they had the decency to wait longer. I'm happy it bombed. Capcom can choke on a hadouken.

Meh people would have bought it if not for the fked up release window.

Going against MW3/Skyrim was a big mistake.

Even good games like Rayman/SR3 would bomb.

I hope Christmas help boost up sales :(

UMvc3 bombed

you do know MvC doesnt sell in japan right? Its SF land ... even MvC3 barely managed 100k in japan i think.... and it wont bomb in the US coz the target audience is totally different from other games , so its not really gonna get affected by mw3 or w/e.... whether it released now or 2 years later , its gonna sell the same(which is about half or a lil lesser than what MvC3 sold)....cant really compare to the SF franchise since they got a much better deal

I think nuking MvC3 after 9 months to accomodate this was a bigger mistake.

Capcom said they were forced to release it at this time since its the only release window Marvel allowed for them(they proly dont want their own titles to clash with each other) ...Sorta believable since even the heroes heralds mode hasnt been added yet (nothing on disc) and they adding it via free DLC......

I woudnt be surprised if they arent gonna be shipping any more copies after this similar to MvC2.... that game started selling at insane rates since it wasnt easily available....

Capcom should have just waited and released this instead of MvC3 .... it had the potential to be an excellent holiday seller .... and has too much awesome content as well (something MvC3 was lacking).... just look at KOF 13 , fking insane content ...thats how MvC3 should have been ....

Tbh even am kinda happy it bombed .... that ll teach em to disrespect Megaman :threatenlumber: .....

I am talking from a unit sales POV and not from the profitability perspective. It is considerably lower than other major PSP titles. TBH, L-5 is doing only particularly well with some of its franchises and the others have, for a better word for it, bombed. Inazuma and Layton does quite well whereas LBE/NNK did not.

True there. Certainly could have made it 100-200k, maybe bad timing there as well.

Rumor -

According to a story posted by IndustryGamers, Remedy's 2010 Xbox 360 exclusive Alan Wake sold much better than originally thought. While NPD sales figures currently peg the game at 330K units sold in the US to date (with the number closer to 500K worldwide), those numbers apparently do not factor in digital download sales.

Digital sales matter because a downloadable code for the game was included in a holiday console bundle last year, packaged with a disc copy of Forza Motorsport 3. This year sees a similar bundle on store shelves, which includes a digital code for Halo: Reach and a disc-based version Fable III. However, NPD data has been counting digital sales for Halo Reach, something it hasn't been doing for Alan Wake.

According to IndustryGamers' sources, the digital version of the game accounts for roughly 900K unit sales; almost twice that of the physical version, increasing the sales figures substantially. With physical and digital sales considered, the game's sales are closer to 1.5 million units sold, much more successful that we would've thought.
