The Helghast are back. Killzone®3 announced for PlayStation®3 [PS3™]

The war is far from won. Get ready for an epic battle against the deadliest enemies on PS3

London, May 24th 2010: Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has confirmed the return of its iconic first person shooter, Killzone®, to PlayStation®3 [PS3™]. Bringing back the trademark ferocious action on a grand scale, Killzone®3 is an explosive cinematic experience more intense than ever before. Loaded with more vehicles, explosive high powered weapons and a vicious close-combat system, resume the fight against a remorseless Helghast Army of colossal proportions. This is David vs. Goliath…if Goliath had thousands of troops and a thermonuclear arsenal.

The story begins where Killzone®2 left off, with Visari, the vicious Helghast dictator, lying dead at the feet of Special Forces soldiers Sev and Rico. The battle may have been won but the war is far from over. Visari’s death has left behind a world of political scheming, infighting and outright murder. Meanwhile his parting gift, a nuclear bomb detonated in Phyruss, the Helghan Capital, has decimated the ISA invasion force. With no re-enforcements and supplies quickly running out, you must now fight against ruthless Helghast war machine alone.

An epic cinematic war experience

With levels ten times bigger than in Killzone 2, this is Helghan like you’ve never seen it before. You’ll face brutal combat in a host of environments that threaten to bury you on the deadly planet. Killzone 3 will see you trudge through toxic nuclear wastelands, get lost in a lethal alien jungle, fight in bitter arctic conditions and take the battle into space as you fight against Helghast domination – with every location featuring a distinct gameplay style for you to master.

Be at the centre of the action

Killzone 3 will be fully playable in Stereoscopic 3D, immersing you more deeply into the ferocious world and putting you at the heart of the action. But be careful. While you experience this world in incredible, High Definition, Stereoscopic 3D detail – you’ll learn to fear what’s around every single corner.

Take on an even more vicious Helghast army

The Helghast are back and they’re bigger and fiercer than you’ve ever seen them. From Jetpack troopers to enemies wielding portable weapons of mass destruction, your enemies will be tougher, scarier and equipped with a host of new toys in their quest for destruction.

Prepare for battle!

Features :

New Weapons

The WASP is Killzone 3's all-singing, all-dancing new rocket launcher, and it packs one hell of a punch. Like the mini-gun before it, the WASP slows player movement and also like the mini-gun it helps turn Sev into a one-man army. Primary fire unleashes a barrage of missiles that corkscrew their way to the intended target, with smoke wisps trailing in their path. Secondary fire sees players looking down a scope, locking on to a target and then unleashing death from above as rockets fire into the sky before plummeting down and splintering across whole areas of the battlefield. It's similar to Modern Warfare's tankbusters and it's a brilliantly over-the-top addition to Killzone 3's arsenal.

It's a W.A.S.P., which MD Herman Hulst describes as a "portable weapon of mass destruction". This missile launcher spits multiple, homing projectiles, swarming from the barrel before zoning in on hapless targets with devastating results. The secondary fire is even more spectacular. Switching briefly to a green-screen zoom of the battlefield, we paint a target in the distance, one of the Helghan APCs. Release the trigger and there's a split-second's pause. Nothing's left the barrel. A misfire perhaps? The answer comes soon enough - a Javelin-like strike from above, fired by a aerial drone linked to the launcher, which obliterates the target area, using a whole clip in the process.

Upgraded Melee system.

Hulst teased two more Killzone 3 items: multiplayer and its "brutal melee system." It showed off some of the hand-to-hand kills ISA soldiers will perform, vicious and repeated gun butts, boot stomps and massive blows to the heads of Helghast rank and file.

While taking damage, the screen's edges were coated with blood; while running, a vignetting effect darkened the screen's border. The environments looked new, but the action looked familiar to anyone who played Killzone 2 on the PS3—lots of high-energy gunplay and grenade tossing. Helghan soldiers crumpled realistically when killed. Melee attacks consisted of a swift kick to the face and a vicious stab to the back.

One thing that's definitely improved is the melee system, as the clumsy system of old is superseded by a much more dynamic way to stab someone in the face. It's now context sensitive: creep up on a Helghan and it's possible to kick them up against a wall before plunging the knife with a further press of the melee button. Going toe-to-toe with them enables some gruesome kills, sticking the knife in places it doesn't belong like a Helghan's ribcage or eye socket.

Stereoscopic 3D

generally the whole effect is a mesmerising one, drawing you into the screen and surrounding you with it, generally just in time to recoil from a projectile or ten.

we can report that it looks stupendous – bullets zip out of the screen while particles such as snow and sparks are tangible elements of the game world. It feels like much more than a gimmick as well: peripheral details such as raging seas thrashing the icebergs combine with the way the player's gun seems to hang out of the screen to create a level of immersion that's truly beyond anything we've seen to date.

- If you shoot Helghast with jetpacks, they'll "explode like roman candles"

- To control the jetpack, you "have to activate bursts of speed in midair, propelling yourself across further distances."

- The Jetpack resembles something you'd do in platformers such as Super Mario Bros. Or Uncharted

- In one mission, you have to use the jetpack by "launching yourself from glacier to glacier"

- You'll see "a lot of" snow levels.

- Everything is more spread out in this game.

- The game looks very complete.

no no please dont tamper with the controls. Love them the way they are. Increase the classes, get in some vehicular combat and a semi decent story for campaign (no rico please and get a token big black guy- ala cole train- who wields a heavy gun and shouts random expletives).

OMFG.. I LOVE KZ2 .. :D

MW who ??

This. make High Presicion & the alt 2 control scheme default and you wont have any more complaints. killzone 2 is the only game apart from fifa where i actually changed the default control scheme to something else.

the default scheme was so retarded that it's not even funny..

and i hope they wont do ANYTHING to the MP structure

juss add 2 or 3 more classes n more weapons that'll be enough.. :wOOtjumpy: i hope they dont change the whole feel of MP :ack:

i want vehicles. But it should not be the main focus, a side one on a few maps if u may, that will give more importance (and responsibility) to assaults and bring a nice variety.

I always thought of a convoy sort of mission. where one faction has to take a big a*s truck/tank frm location A to B. The catch here is that the vehical will move pretty slowly, and will have a health bar. One person can drive it and 1 can use a mounted turret on it and rest on foot guarding it. the other faction has to destroy it obviously.

Not a proper idea, needs some refinement but still i feel it cud be good :)

EDIT: one more improvement, the engys of the team can repair the vehicle too, more the engys, faster the repair but max 3-4 engys can do it at the same time, the vehical has to be stationary for the repair though
