Publisher Ubisoft announced the development of a brand new Prince of Persia game and to answer the question that's most certainly on your mind, no it's not a sequel to last year's PoP game. The new game is called Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and it represents a continuation of the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time series.

Ubisoft points out that the game is going to feature "many of the fan-favorite elements" and "new gameplay innovations that gamers have come to expect from the Prince of Persia brand."

The project was described as being the sort of game that appeals to both hardcore and casual gamers. "The goal is to reach both audiences, the core and casual gamers. It will be a game that will have lots of combat, with the possibility for gamers that are not as good - a level for beginners. In that sense we are trying to cover both groups," said Ubi's CEO Yves Guillemot recently.

Evidently the game's storyline is intended to coincide with the release of Disney's feature film Prince of Persia.

The premiere trailer for this game is expected to appear on Spike TV's Video Game Awards on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 8 p.m. EST. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is scheduled for release on consoles and handhelds in May 2010.

that pic is of disney's upcoming prince of persia movie and many sites saying that the story of the game will be related to the movie. The official ubisoft website also shows some details about the game

which is enough to make me believe that the game will suck harder than a nuclear powered NASA vacuum cleaner.

also the may 2010 date offers no hope.

sigh...

could not they have given us a good sequel ??

Are you kidding me? They tried for a sequel and gave us WW. They tried again and gave us TTT (which sucked a little less than WW but thats like saying dirt tastes better than gravel). Then they tried to start again and gave us PoP (one 'o' away from Poop which is what that game was). At this point the best you can hope for is a remake of SoT.

A bit harsh but f**kem. They lost the PoP plot right after SoT.

wait, u loved SoT and you want them to remake it

Nope. I am saying they cant make a good game unless its an HD remake of SoT.

Personally I dont want them to make anymore PoP games be it remakes, reboots, sequels, prequels, tie ins or whatever. Let it go.

^^Yep. This has a cheap and fast cash in written all over it. Who announces a game six months before release? Unless its been developed solely for the movie.

They could have farmed it out to another developer to take a fresh perspective on the series. Worked wonders for CD and TR.

FYI, the last prince of persia was announced in may of 2008, again 6 months before release.

sure it had its fair share of issues(rather subjective this), but nothing that couldnt be erased in time for the sequel in 2 years time.

it worked with assassins creed 2 so i dont see why it cant work for the next prince of persia.

and the last one was a fresh take, and not a bad one, so how many do you want?

what worries me is how quickly they are releasing this game, i dont want a movie tie in. :|

If it's based on the movie, the art direction will probably not be like the previous game. They'll try to make it look like the movie. But either way, Ubi has access to some really cool tech. So if nothing else you can at least expect some amazing visuals.

@Afty & Ty: Everyone has their personal fav PoP games , I played SoT and liked it , it was an excellent game with good characters , story and somewhat limited combat system. But when I played WW I was hooked to it from the get go , the combat system and dark mood made it my favorite.Whereas TT felt like a mixed bag trying to balance the Fairytale mood of SoT with Grimness of WW.

As they say "Horses for courses" . :\
