Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY gets 3D support, more

We’ve known for some time that Batman: Arkham Asylum’s Game of the Year Edition was on the way, but now we know exactly what extras we can expect. The biggest feature in the GOTY edition is the inclusion of Trioviz 3D technology, and two sets of 3D glasses included in each copy of the game. Original game features:

• Utilize the unique FreeFlow combat system to chain together unlimited combos seamlessly and battle with huge groups of The Joker’s henchmen in brutal melee brawls.
  
• Investigate as Batman, the WORLD’S GREATEST DETECTIVE, by solving intricate puzzles with the help of cutting edge forensic tools.
  
• Face off against Gotham’s greatest villains including The Joker, HARLEY QUINN, POISON IVY, SCARECROW and KILLER CROC.
  
• Become the Invisible Predator with Batman’s fear takedowns and unique vantage point system to move without being seen and hunt enemies.
  
• Explore every inch of Arkham Asylum and roam freely on the infamous island, presented for the first time ever in its gritty and realistic entirety.
  
• Experience what it’s like to be BATMAN using BATARANGS, explosive gel aerosol, The Batclaw, sonar resonator and the line launcher.

Additional content in the Game of the Year edition

• Scarecrow Nightmare Challenge Map: a combat map for expert players set in the Scarecrow’s nightmarish world where players will need to fight against hordes of skeleton henchmen.
  
• Crime Alley Challenge Map: a combat map set in this iconic location from Gotham City that has been overrun by The Joker’s henchmen.
  
• Totally Insane Challenge Map: a combat map set in the heart of Arkham Asylum where players will need to fight against waves of lunatics.
  
• Nocturnal Hunter Challenge Map: an Invisible Predator map where players will need to seize back control of the Prison Watchtowers from The Joker’s henchmen.
  
• X360, PS3: New and exclusive Trioviz 3D with 2 sets of 3D glasses included in the box
  
• PC: Anti-Aliasing implementation for ATI graphic cards and nVidia PhysX content featured in the game’s title update

The TriOviz system adds depth into the screen as opposed to making objects jump out as you might see with polarised glasses in something like Avatar.

However overall the system works really well, adding to the experience while remaining inexpensive in terms of rendering cost. This has meant that we haven't had to adjust or remove any features while adding the 3D to the game. With some clever trickery from the code team, we've also included all the in game movies in 3D as well.

You get two pairs of paper 3D glasses with the game. The 3D technology in this even works with regular SDTVs. You don't need a special 3D-compatible 120hz TV for this.

There was a Game Developer's Summit at Bangalore last weekend where nVidia had a booth showcasing Arkham Asylum, Resident Evil 5 in 3D
