CRYSTAL DYNAMICS ANNOUNCES NEW LARA CROFT™ ADVENTURE

LARA CROFT AND THE GUARDIAN OF LIGHT™

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – March 4, 2010 – Crystal Dynamics™, a part of Square Enix Europe, today announced Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light™, a new game developed by Crystal Dynamics, which will be released via digital download in 2010.

“This is a really exciting project for Crystal Dynamics, we have created something completely new and very different to what people might be expecting,” said Darrell Gallagher, General Manager of Crystal Dynamics. “Lara Croft is such an iconic character in videogames, with Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light we have created what we believe is a truly original digital experience.”

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light will be shown strictly “behind closed doors” at this year’s Game Developers Conference beginning on March 9th. Please contact Rob Fleischer at Sandbox Strategies (rob@sandboxstrat.com) for more information.

Crystal Dynamics is an award-winning studio located in San Francisco. Founded in 1992, the studio has created and developed key game franchises such as: Legacy of Kain™, Pandemonium™, Gex™ and most recently the Tomb Raider™ series.

I am not too sure about the game being Digital download only. Well lets see.

Could be 2D ala Shadow complex as well. Its supposed to be shown off at GDC so we will know more then. Interesting that they have dropped the "Tomb raider" phrase totally from the game.

Also shown off at GDC (according to rumors) is Deus Ex 3. Two of my favorite franchises will either sink or swim there.

Edit Actually I feel dirty calling a DX a franchise since 2 was a giant turd but still.

Could be a side scrolling Tomb Raider ... which would be interesting.

Actually this could be a reboot of the franchise. Well, the assumption is based on the leaked concept art.

I wouldn't keep my hopes flying considering stuff they have already revealed.

What's more, stealth will now rely on a cover system rather than shadows, and damage will be dealt with by a very Call of Duty-style auto-heal. There's probably going to be some debate over those two.

Well this is interesting. CD were/are working on two projects so someone asked this over at GAF to one of the Eidos community manager.

So the other game they are working on could be titled "Tomb Raider" then?

So it is possible that both projects in development at Crystal Dynamics star Lara Croft?

I know you probably can't answer that, so no worries.

And this is what he said.

PR answer: Tomb Raider and Lara is part of the Crystal fabric these days

Community Manager answer: You're on the money :O

Like I said there is a chance there might be another TR game they are working on which will be a full retail game so this could be like a lead up to the other game.

Downloadable only. That probably means it's so drastically different from past games that they didn't want to risk a proper retail release. Interesting.

peace

:furious:

Lara already suffered lot of backlash from many even when all the games after Tomb raider angel of darkness were great in many ways....with few minor flaws. :(

^^They are working on both titles. And I am glad they are taking their time and not pulling an Activision on us. If it takes them 3 years to make a great game, more power to them.

Two TR games - horny sqenix producers just want Lara. Just publish Hitman and Thief already :good:

Isn't Hitman coming in 2011? That's too far. :D

One look at the all-new Tomb Raider game and you’ll see why Eidos and Crystal Dynamics have put aside the famous name for Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. This is a very different Tomb Raider game.

The downloadable cooperative Lara Croft adventure drops the standard behind-the-back third-person camera angle from just about every other Tomb Raider game in favour of an isometric camera. Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light also gives the treasure hunter a new puzzle-solving buddy in the form of Totec, according to Gamespot’s first look at the game. He’ll be playable by your co-op cohort of choice either online or off, but Gamespot stresses that the title can be played solo.
