playstation
Square Enix plots super secret top-tier core gaming title Electronic Arts isn't the only major publisher with a keen eye on the aggregate scores for its lineup of titles on Metacritic. Square Enix is looking to earn some serious Metacritic cred of its own, and to do that it will need to draw from its pool of talent across both the East and West. The publisher confirms at CEDEC that it is planning a large scale game project that involves its growing international network of developers. This East-meets-West dream team will be leveraged to produce what Square Enix fully intends to be a bona fide, Triple A title catered to the tried-and-true core gaming market. Square Enix titles are no stranger to the hype train these days even outside of Japan, but the publisher is dead serious on producing quality that will be recognized, so much so that it covets nothing less than a final product that will rate over 90 on the Metacritic scale of collective review scores. Square Enix's library of titles (or at least the ones Metacritic bothers to keep track of; its earliest SE title on file is Unlimited SaGa for the PS2) currently average a Metacritic rating of 73, with two titles under its belt scoring over 90: Final Fantasy XII for the PS2 and the 2008 DS port of Chrono Trigger. Looks like Square Enix wants that stable to grow with brand new titles for once. source
