I'd say online patching is more likely.

Have to say though... as good as this game and the Vita looks in general (not talking about graphics), I really do wonder what future there is to dedicated handheld consoles which cost 300$ and the games cost 40$ when ios and android have pushed down the threshold of mobile gaming expenditure so low.

There is a future simply because of the content. You won't get Mario or Uncharted on formats other than Nintendo's and Sony's. For now at least. It'll be like DSLRs vs. cellphone cameras.

i don't know man. it's probably not a discussion for this thread...

i'll just point out that farmville has probably made more money in 2 years than simcity in it's entire existence. i'm not sure how much having a powerful brand/franchise is going to matter in the future of handheld gaming.

Exactly my thoughts...

I mean even at its best a handheld CANT be your primary gaming system no matter how good it is! Cuz you know for most people it'll only be a backup or for occasional timepass when they cant game on a PC or a console when they are travelling etc. Add to that- the pricing of VITA and its games mathces those of a bloody full blown console's!!! This just doesn't feel right to me (even if I could afford it). And ofcourse then there's competition from iOS and android games that are wayy cheaper, simplistic yet engrossing. Pricing for VITA games should have been close to the pricng of PC games. IMO...

And really except a few, who cares so much about mario or uncharted that they'd be willing to pay those huge prices for a handheld and its game? Especially when for an equal sum of money they can buy a UC3 for a console! There's only so much one could justify spending for the sake of mobility.

There's no brand value so to speak because your audience doesn't give a damn. At least Sony, Nintendo and MS can get by with recognizable IP and a loyal audience. It's the software that sells the hardware, if the software is not of good quality then it will not be able to sell the associated hardware, as good as the hardware in itself may be, look at Nokia in phone market.

3DS did not sell at the original price point as it had hardly any games to go for it, people bought the DSL as frankly even if they would have bought the 3DS they would have ended up playing the DSL games on it.
So they ditch the 3DS and bought the DSL, lesser priced console that played nearly the same games.
This is not the case with VITA. It has it's own catalogue of quality games and a lot of reputed companies behind it working on future titles.

It will succeed, mark my words.

Not anymore, not in this economy. You can have shitload of AAA titles and it'll still be outsold by a cheaper system with a gimmick and 1 AAA title. If exclusive software could do the difference PS3 would be the highest selling console of all 3.

And 3DS still has f**kall software, just 2 must haves and rest are console ports. And if it was 250$ it would still be outsold by PSP and DS.

This is exactly what I was saying in some other thread. Gaming on mobile platforms is fast catching up with handhelds with better hardware and games every passing day. Even publishers like EA, release games like Dead space and FIFA on android/iOS now. Vita might survive for hardcore gamers who wants zeldas and uncharteds on the go, but for the rest of the casual gaming crowd, I don't see what'll be the incentive to go for vita, when they can get games at 10 times lesser price on their smartphones.

this is where playstation suite comes in. if it works as sony promised you'll get those android, iOS games and apps for pretty much similar price but with dedicated controls.

Vita costs £209 for the wifi version here (along with 8GB memory card), when it costs £150 in the US (donno if that's with memory card). Literally ZERO point buying a 3G version cause you cannot use 3G to play multiplayer and if it's for browsing web then my smartphone is enough. I'm thinking of putting my purchase on hold until June when I make a trip to California, but then the temptation to get it on launch day is too irresistible and donno how that compares to saving £50.

Hell I'd spend £50 on a single shirt when i go out shopping, but I think 10 times when it comes to purchasing decisions like these. Wtf is wrong with me?
