ok iv gotta order my new pc sometime this week .... latest friday-saturday.... and this is the config i think im gonna go for ....
need suggestions on whether there is anything better i can add to it ....

intel quad core processor ,intel mobo
4gb ddr2 ram
1tb hdd (500x2)
19" lcd display
sata dvd writer
nvidia gfx card (need suggestions)
blueray player/hd-dvd player (if its cost effective)
will use my old mx518 mouse , razer mousepad , and the usual logitech wireless keyboard....

also i need to know .... is there anything extra i need to buy if i wanna conenct my onkyo hts to the pc ??

Go for a Quad core Q6600, they're as cheaper than the E6850 procs and faster.
Genuine intel mobos are sweet. Rock solid stability. If you want to overclock, Gigabyte and Asus are quite good. Ditto with Abit.
For a 19" monitor i highly recommend a 19" Samsung 920NW. It's a sweet monitor, wide screen and is fully HDCP compatible. Avoid Viewsonic like the plague, tech2's run a story on how f**ked up the RMA service is and how monitors are dying like Indian batsmen on a grassy wicket.
You can get Corsair RAM for cheap if you scrounge around.
Lite-on DVD writers are godlike.
Stick with Seagate HDDs, the warranty is good and service is stellar. Plus the HDD performance is sweet.

To be honest, i wouldn't bother with a blu-ray/HD-DVD drive at this point of time. Its still too early to tell who will win. Besides DVD is still king in this country.

As for a video card, if you can swing an 8800GTS 320MB or 8800GTS 640MB that would be the icing on the cake. Either would do with a 19" widescreen as the max res. is 1440x900.

i can speak for the brands i've suggested as i've just helped my girlfriend and aunt build new systems over the past month.

cuz i was thinking on getting the pioneer sata one (cuz its reccomended to burn games )

Quad cores are not good for gaming, atleast right now. Most games don't make proper use of additional 2 cores. E6850 is the ultimate for games, unless you want to do video decoding, Photoshop etc more than gaming. Also, 8800GTS is good card but I would say go for GTX, its more expensive but much ahead of GTS in performance. Btw both cards cost 25/30k+ in India. Why don't you tell your uncle to send it from US. E6850/8800GTX is the killer combo for games and should get you through safely for another couple of years, atleast until 45nm becomes mainstream.

and the above config i was getting in bout 60-70k ....and if i add a 25k card its off-limits for me

E6850 is the best bet for now rather than the quad core. Get a 8800GTS minimum for any serious gaming. Make sure the 19 inch LCD is wide screen and leave the HD-DVD/Blu Ray drive for now. You can always add it later if you want.

^^ Told ya. If you are limited on budget, then 8600GTS is your best bet, costs about 12/13k, 8800GTS is about 22k I think.

^ thts a huge price difference .... i think il go for tht ver the later more exp one .... (and pc gaming isnt tht big an issue for mew as i decided last year to totally stop pc gaming as the exp were too high in keeping on upgrading the gfx card .... hence il rely on my consoles for gaming .... im just impatient thts why all i want is a super fast pc ....

@ CC my heart lies with pc gaming .... spent god noz how much on it .... but have decided to stop .... hence the gfx card doesnt matter .... mainly i play cs on the pc .... and nowadays rarely .... and tht runs on max settings on a geforce 5200 also .... so i dont really care bout the gfx card.... im not going for the 22" for the simple reason tht my pc is gonna be right next to my tv which is anyways 40" and its not necessary and will be a bit too much .... (was gonna go for a 17" lcd but the diff in price between 17 and 19 is like 1-1.5k

I'll tell you what I've done on the graphics card front. In May this year, I assembled a Core2Duo based PC with a SLi capable motherboard (Asus) and bought a 8600GTS for approx 9K from Malaysia. (This was the top of the line MSI 8600GTS Overclock edition that came with Company of Heroes free :jumpy: ). I am now planning to buy another MSi 8600 GTS in December and SLi my rig. The performance would be quite staggering without the blow to my bank balance that the 8800 series would have been, plus I get to stagger the expenditure thanks to SLi.

Oh and if you want to connect the sound output to a HT receiver, then you should use the optical out port on the sound card. Most new MoBos have high quality onboard sound processors so they should have an optical out somewhere below the PS/2 ports.

Yes you would get the Pioneer drive. i'd suggest against the E6850/E6750 as if you're someone who upgrades 3 to 4 years, quad core is more beneficial.

But if you have to make a choice between an asskicking processor and a better video card, i'd go with a better video card....so if you've to make a trade off between getting a core 2 duo and an 8800GTS or a quad core and an 8600GTS, i'd go with the c2d+8800gts any day.

i've no idea about the availability of LG monitors, i hear the quality is just about okay. Dell is sweet but availability is a bitch. Avoid Viewsonic for now.

And 320MB on the 8800GTS should be enough as your max res. on a widescreen 19" is 1440x900.

You'd have to scout around a few stores to check if they can arrange a piece for you. That's what i had to do for my Pioneer DVR-108A. Ended up getting an OEM piece.

Well dreaming aside, it looks to be a solid machine, the motherboard i'd suggest is the Intel DG33FB .

i was quoted a price of 10.5K on the HDD though and i think you may be able to get an XFX 8600GTS for a shade cheaper. Love the choice of casing. Got an Antec Super LanBoy at the moment. Antec makes godlike stuff. You may want to get a higher spec'd power supply unit though. Perhaps something in the 420-450W range.

If you don't mind me asking, why are you after that specific dvd writer model alone?

I would recommend a motherboard based on the nVidia nForce 680i SLi or 650i SLi. Best performance and feature set for C2D processors. There are several choices available from ASUS, MSI and XFX.

I wouldn't recommend such a low specced PSU. Go for a 800W or higher PSU which will allow you to connect a second graphics card, additional HDDs and optical drives, without straining the power supply to the MoBo.

At the minimum, you should go for the Creative Audigy 4 ZX, but preferably one of the Creative X-Fi sound cards. The chips on these babies process Directsound in hardware, taking the load of your CPU. The Audigy 4 ZX should run you approx 2-2.5K.

these are rough prices i got of tht priceguru.com site .... and the prices are out dated as the last update on tht site was in august .... so these prices are upper limits ....

i want tht model dvd writer so tht i can successfully burn games ....
