Irredeemable
I have been practicing indian classical music with my violin for the past 14 years with my 2 violins, both of which are acoustic. I wanted to try out an electric violin. Im looking for one which isnt TOO expensive, so ended up with this one here: http://www.amazon.com/Cecilio-CEVN-1NA-Electric-Solidwood-Fittings/dp/B003F1IHWY/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1327241898&sr=1-1 I have the following questions: 1. Is the violin I choose good enough? To me, it looks good, and I even looked at the violins review at fiddlerman.com so far Im impressed! 2. What sort of import duties am I looking at here? Abhishek.
Why don't you the violin from India itself. Why to bother about customs and also import duty and a lot other formalities. http://www.naaptol.com/buy/hobbies_-_passion/musical_instruments/violins.html http://www.ebay.in/itm/DAddario-NS310-NS-Electric-Violin-Strings-Medium-/270894697525?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash=item3f12950c35#ht_2074wt_905

Secondly, amazon gives me options to order a different color violin whereas naaptol doesnt let me change the color. @ Sagar: Surely you must have some sort of contacts / idea when it comes to stringed instruments? Most retailers who sell guitars also sell violins... I just need an electric violin not an acoustic violin, since I already have 2 acoustic violins, and one of them is a german violin almost 70 years old. I just wanted to make a point that you can buy a electric violin and other accessories from India that's all. Anyway I hope you get one soon. DarthVader
^ used to have a Granada acoustic-electric violin. it should cost you about 10000 in India from a local music store. might contact Bajaao but i don't know if they can get it.. the one you mention would cost about the same when it lands here. Great to see another violinist here! Do you think a pickup mic / electric bridge might be good enough? Im not really looking to spend a ton of cash on the violin. Just wanted to get some basic setup working so I could record my music without disturbance. I already own an antique medini german violin (1956 make) which is more than enough for my needs. The only problem is I have no way of converting my music to digital without a lot of noise.

DarthVader
then a violin pickup mic should do the job. and don't get a contact mic. you would miss all the details and it would sound harsh.
