Heaven Angel
Why use Excel? anyways, did you stop Excel from browsing your LAN / Network drives when you open an Excel spreadsheet on your local hard drive?
Rosh
Look at the date of the thread and the urgency the OP required and you reply now that too without a solution!
Big Boss
Why use Excel? This may not be the case with OP, but here is a general post about why we use excel or why we use a particular software when working. Almost 90% of organizations use Excel. If a client sends me a 40mb file in excel, I have to use a excel. I dont know where OP works, but almost no organization allows you to install any other applications on your windows, else it is considered policy breach and you might even get fired depending upon type of software you installed. Where I work, they have a tool call idApps, in which only apps I got approved appear and then I can install them. If I try to install anything else, I cant, and if I can, a script runs at the beginning which detects if there are any unauthorized apps installed. In previous organization, there was something similar. And when I say Organization, I say IT companies, mostly the tier 1 (Cognizant, Infosys, Wipro, Accenture etc) or tier 2 (Hexaware, Zensar, L&T Infotech, Syntel etc)companies. Smaller start-ups or local small Indian companies can allow you to use anything, but they too once they grow, restrict the software installs. In short, once you start working, in almost 90% of organizations out there, you have to use what they want you to use. I have used IE till now, since none of the organizations I worked for allowed installing 3rd party browsers unless my work demanded it. It sucks, but you cant do anything unless you want to risk your job for something so trivial (I used Chrome BTW once I knew the loopholes/work arounds )
