Chewie
after the previous issue with my ps3 where it would crash when installing resident evil 5 (http://www.indianvideogamer.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=35344&hl=) i continued using it & it would work ok. then last month i got psn plus trial & downloaded & played limbo, quantum conundrum & vanquish ok . then i played sleeping dogs & even that worked fine for a while till a strange issue crept up. every time i loaded the game it would crash & the red led light would blink. then when i restarted it, it would perform a file system check & then would work fine. this process of load game for first time - crash - file system check – game working ok happened every time with sleeping dogs. then i bought & installed dead island digital version from psn & this crashed on loading into the game too but this time even doing the file system check didn't help & as of now its unplayable. i'd also bought assassin's creed brotherhood & revelations double pack (physical disc version) which has a 8gb install of the game to hdd & this worked ok for about 30 minutes then started crashing especially at cut scenes & when loading next section after ie. at check points. thinking that my hdd was at fault i changed to a new hdd, formatted it, did a system restore & re-installed assassin's creed & dead island but the same problem persists so its not a hdd issue. nor is it a ylod coz the yellow light doesn't blink before. also games that dont install any data on hdd work fine & so do demos & games installed earlier. while looking up the issue i came across this video -- which involves adjusting something called the trim pots in the power supply section. apparenly the first slim models (which is the one that i have) have this problem. but it doesnt feel like a power supply issue coz if i play other games or just leave it on it works fine & the crash happens even after just starting the ps3 so its not like it getting hot or something. has anyone else here with a slim faced this issue or tried this fix ? seems like there's an issue with the hardware component that reads/writes to hard drive (but then even downloading/installing digital games should be a problem, no?)
