Slitherine and Games Workshop have confirmed that Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon – the next instalment in the long-running series – set for release in Q1 2014 for the PC and iOS. The turn-based strategy title will focus on the Second War of Armageddon, from the initial Ork landings to the final liberation of the planet, and the campaign will contain 30 scenarious as well as 5 tutorial scenarios elaborating on the story.

Players will command Imperial troops of the Armageddon Steel Legion, supporters by Space Marine chapters in fierce battles against the Orks; there will be more than 100 types of units – each with different stats, roles and abilities. Also expect some detailed and immersive combat scenarios due to the use of terrain, weather as well as morale effects. The multiplayer portion of the game will contain a separate set of maps specifically designed for that mode. There even more scope for replayability due to the availability of an easy-to-use game editor permitting for tons of modding options allowing for several more hours of gameplay.

Main features of the game include:

  • The game portrays the Second War for Armageddon in great detail, from the initial Ork landings to the final liberation of the planet.
  • A large branching campaign with 30 major scenarios, plus additional 5 tutorial scenarios that explore the story in detail.
  • A complex plot, which can develop during a mission, right in the middle of battle, creating an engaging story line with unexpected twists.
  • Players lead Imperial troops of the Armageddon Steel Legion, with supporting assets from a number of Space Marine chapters against the ferocious Orks.
  • Fight alongside Commissar Yarrik and Commander Dante against the cunning Ork Warboss Ghazghkull Thraka.
  • Carry over battle-hardened veterans from scenario to scenario, using their experience and upgrading their equipment.
  • Detailed combat model with terrain, weather and morale effects.
  • Extensive modding options delivered through a powerful and easy-to-use game editor.

The game is currently in development for PC and iOS and will release in the first quarter of 2014.
