I want this now!! Thank you Blizzard for not making it a MMO. The gameplay footage looks so old school I wanna cry tears of joy.

Some further tidbits.

In a press conference following the reveal, the developer confirmed PC and Mac platforms, saying it had "no plans" for console versions, and added that it was too early to talk about a release date - although Frank Pearce added, "as much as possible it will be our goal to release simultaneously worldwide".

During the press conference, Blizzard explained that the game would include drop-in/drop-out co-operative play and a mixture of random and static maps for its dungeon-crawling.

Perhaps the world is not made. Perhaps nothing is made. A clock without a craftsman. It's too late. Always has been, always will be.....too late.

It looks great, another game for a pre-order (and hopefully collector's edition).

I highly doubt that. Blizzard is usually cautious with system requirements. Heck, its one of the reasons why WoW is so popular because pretty much ANY system can play it.

Has GameTrailers uploaded the new footage yet? Eurogamer.net keeps giving me a timed-out.

Already did, site opens but I can't download anything without the file getting interrupted (and resuming it never seems to work). Oh well, I've already seen all the available footage. I just wanted to download it and show it off to my colleagues at work.

Awesome-sauce. Glad it's not an MMO. i hope i'll be able to follow the storyline, what with not playing any of the Diablo games.

Yes you read right. i was and still am predominantly a console RPG kid.

No pinned release date yet, but if I had to guess - late 2009. Starcraft II has to come first, after all :D

GameTrailers has their Diablo III page up.

Also, a brief rundown on what's known so far (courtesy of 1up.com):

The Story

Here's how Blizzard describes it: "It has been twenty years since the events of Diablo II. Of those who faced the Lords of Hatred, Terror, and Destruction in the battle over the fate of Sanctuary, there are few still living who can bear to remember the horrors that the Prime Evils wrought upon the world. And of those who did not witness the terrible events firsthand, most believe the stories to be little more than myth. But something evil is stirring once again in Tristram, and it may already have claimed its first victim: Deckard Cain... When Deckard Cain returns to the ruins of Tristram's Cathedral seeking clues to new stirrings of evil, a comet from the heavens strikes the very ground where Diablo once entered the world. The comet carries a dark omen in its fiery being and it calls the heroes of Sanctuary to defend the mortal world against the rising powers of the Burning Hells -- and even the failing luminaries of the High Heavens itself."

The Classes:

Five character classes will be included in the game, two of which have been shown so far. The barbarian returns and has been completely redone with new skills and the witch doctor is new to the game. You'll be able to create male and female characters for all of the five classes. According to Blizzard, Diablo III will offer far more customization options than were available in the previous games.

The Characters:

We know Deckard Cain returns, and Blizzard has said that several characters from the previous games will also be present in addition to new ones.

The Locations:

Diablo III returns to Tristam and certain other locations from the previous games, plus we'll see new areas of Sanctuary.

The Gameplay:

As with the shift to a sleek new graphics engine for StarCraft 2, Diablo III offers far better visuals but attempts to retain the same great gameplay found in the previous titles. According to Blizzard, the game will build on the random environments of the prior installments by introducing new ways to generate random scripted events. Blizzard is also promising lots more interactivity in the environments, including plenty of destructible elements and the ability to use the environment against enemies (including setting traps). In terms of game modes, Diablo III naturally offers both single-player and multiplayer. According to Blizzard, Battle.net has been "wickedly-enhanced" to make connecting with others easier and to make co-op play more fun (we can't wait to see what they've come up with).

The Release Date:

It's too early to say, but Blizzard plans to release the game simultaneously in as many regions as possible. It will also be available on PC and Mac simultaneously.

So, so right. I think it could have been dicey even if the view point was like Neverwinter nights 2. Isometric top down view works brilliantly and it looks fantastic without taxing a lot of computer hardware (which I guess has always been the Blizzard philosphy). And co op is just going to be the icing on the cake.

BTW the best comment on the game announcement I read was "I'll have to re-negotiate my work contract and marriage terms...".

Perhaps the world is not made. Perhaps nothing is made. A clock without a craftsman. It's too late. Always has been, always will be.....too late.

For me D3 > SC2, but only by a very little margin. I love my action RPGs a little more than my RTSes...

As for the storyline, yeah I'm very interested in seeing where the go with it. But since it's Blizzard it's pretty much given that it's gonna kick all sorts of a*s... can't wait for those awesome CG cutscenes!

YEah...but I just hope they dont screw up the story like war3,became quite messy towards the end..and arthas..kerrigan...well.....well they cannot use the going over to the dark side again :D

Interestingly..they said you'll have to battle against the forces of hell and some of the forces of heaven too B) ...maybe..different endings.alignments?? That would be cool....

There's bad news for all looking up for Diablo 3 on PS3.

The Lead Designer for Diablo - Jay Wilson confirms that there will be no Diablo 3 for any console. :(
This comes up after an interview with the Joystiq(www.joystiq.com).

Here's the link:-

Diablo 3 A Console Exclusive For 360?
July 1st 2008 01:31

From: http://www.gamerchip...nsoles-360-ps3/
____________________________________________________________

RUMOUR

Blizzard COO Paul Sams has suggested that there is the possibility of bringing Diablo 3 to the console market, but suggested that he would want to see console gamers able to play against PC players. "One question mark I have is whether the console owners would allow PC players to play against console gamers." says Sams, "I think the answer gets a lot easier if the console owners say yes. But at the moment they do like to have closed systems."

At the moment, the only console that could make this vision possible is the 360. Although it has not proven particularly popular, the cross platform connection has already been utilised, see Shadowrun. Is Sams saying as much here? "When you are developing for multiple platforms you sometimes have to compromise. We aren't willing to compromise. We have relationships with all the console manufacturers. I know they would love to have us on their platforms, ideally on their own and not their competitor! But it's all about the game experience."

If this is the case, who could offer the best experience? And without hating on the PS3 fans, who are living in a time where they are on the cusp of a very positive turning point, you would have to say that a fair conclusion from these words is that if we were to see Diablo 3 on a console it might first appear on the 360.
