A remake of the first entry in the critically-acclaimed RPG series, which gave the world a completely new schism of the Shin Megami Tensei franchise. The PSP version features a completely redone localization and content never before seen in North America. Combined with gameplay enhancements and additions new to the remake, fans will have the chance to experience the first Persona game released in North America in a whole new way.

Persona is a philosophical game that takes place in a world close to our own. It is a departure from the typical swords and sorcery, and it delivers a tale of dreams, the purpose of life, and who we are as individuals. In Persona you have modern weapons like an Uzi and an AK-47. And instead of always fighting monsters, you are given the opportunity to talk your way through a confrontation. By talking things out, you can earn components of spells the more components you have, the more powerful your spells become.

On February 6th, 2009, Famitsu Magazine announced that Atlus will be making an enhanced remake for PlayStation Portable and is now rebranded without the title Megami Ibunroku.[13] On February 24, 2009, Atlus U.S.A. announced that they were localizing the PSP remake featuring a completely redone localization and content never before seen in North America (along with the other changes in the Japanese PSP remake. This means that unlike the playstation release, the PSP localization will stay as true to Japanese origin of the game as possible).[14] Updates include:

- All the original FMVs will be remade by Kamikaze Douga, and there will be many brand new FMVs as well to enhance the storytelling.

- Shoji Meguro, who will also be serving as the game's director will be arranging all the original BGM and the vocal tracks will feature Yumi Kawamura, the vocalist for the Persona 3 tracks.

- The interface has been fully revamped to take advantage of the full widescreen view for the benefit of all users.

- Both the original scenario and the Snow Queen scenario will contain additional dungeon floors not found in the original. The new dungeon elements will also contain tricky puzzles and extra content for the player to unravel.

- The game has been fully rebalanced to enhance the playing experience from the original version. The encounter rate and dungeon designs have been tweaked as well. There will also be multiple difficulty settings to more player choice.

- Battle animations can now be skipped entirely, and the battle load times have been decreased to 2/3 the time of the original game.

- There will be many more save points available throughout the game, and for portable fans the game will also feature a quicksave feature.

- A new pre-rendered aerial view town map similar to the later Persona franchises will replace the original real-time 3D town map. There is no more random encounter when traveling in the town as well.

holy god! are they planning to release all four on PSP?

anyway...this makes it a very strong point in favour of getting a PSP! is this going to work on all PSP or only the PSP Go?

any advice on which PSP to get? something which will be cheap and moddable :naughty: and hopefully durable and robust as well...

1. Only first game to be released on PSP, but others may follow (I'm willing to bet we'll be getting a remake of P2 as well)

2. PSP Go doesn't have an UMD drive, so unless there's a digital download available, PSP/PSPSlim for now.

3. PSP Slim 2004 w/ CFW via Pandora Battery is your best bet.

i really doubt if the remaining 3 games will be out on PSP as well ..

I dunno, Persona 2 is definitely do-able. Naturally, any game released on the PS1 can be playable on the PSP to some extent via POPSLoader, but its the extra goodies we have to count on. And Atlus is a master of knowing when to tickle the fanboy bone :naughty:

^^ i for one definately wish for P2 be released for PSP as well

Gotta love how Atlus bundle all this stuff into each copy of the game, while other publishers would sell it at a higher price and label it "Collector's Edition"

peace

+1 ... they even bundled a Stuffed doll + the sound track for Devil Summoner 2 /drool

more on my most anticipated game on the PSP this year

About SMT: Persona

The rumor going around St. Hermelin High School holds that if you play the "Persona" game, you can see what the future holds for you. When a group of students-some eager, some skeptical-tries the game out, they experience something quite different. Before long, the city is turned upside-down and demons are roaming the streets, and only the students' newfound power of Persona can set things right again.

Whether you pursue Takahisa Kandori and his abuses of the power he wields as SEBEC's president, or whether you delve into the curse of the Snow Queen that has plagued St. Hermelin for decades, a deep, modern, psychological tale awaits. Remember your true self, and free the tortured psyches of others...

Key Features

* More than the same old JRPG—Dark, philosophical, and complex, Persona sets you up in a modern day Japan that has gone into chaos. Demons run free, and you and your team must navigate corruption, mental frailty, and an alternate version of your world to bring your reality back into order.

* A second chance on PSP—Offering a second opportunity to experience the beginnings of the acclaimed Persona series, this remake boasts a fully relocalized script, revamped user interface, faster battles, expanded soundtrack, and new in-game movies with voice work added just for the North American release.

* Unique tactical opportunities—The inner selves known Personas are your key to progressing through the adventure, adding skills and incredible depth to your battle tactics. Expand and improve your collection through the Demon Negotiation system that offers spell cards that you can later fuse into new Personas.

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona has not yet been rated by the ESRB.

Persona for PSP to have simultaneous retail and PlayStation Network launch

Although you'll have to buy the UMD version to get the game's full 2-disc soundtrack

personapspglamshot550.png

Atlus U.S.A., Inc. today announced that the upcoming Shin Megami Tensei®: Persona® for PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, the highly-anticipated remake of the first chapter in the critically-acclaimed Persona series, will launch simultaneously at retail and via PlayStation®Network on September 22nd. Retail customers have an added incentive to pre-order; the UMD release of SMT: Persona is a Collector's Edition boxed set, with each and every launch copy including the game's full 2-disc musical score, courtesy of master composer Shoji Meguro, at no additional cost.

Lauded for its mature and philosophical narrative, SMT: Persona stands apart from other RPGs of its era, blending sophisticated storytelling with addictive combat, demon negotiation, and demon fusion components. Boasting a fully redone localization (including content never before seen in North America), all-new music, beautiful new animated sequences overseen by famed artist Kazuma Kaneko, enhanced graphics and sound, adjustments to game balance, and a number of technical and design improvements, this is the definitive version of one of the most sought after RPGs of all time.

"Over a decade after the game was originally released for PlayStation®, we're proud to be able to deliver a remade, remastered SMT: Persona through the ever-growing PlayStation®Store in addition to traditional retail channels," said Tim Pivnicny, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Atlus. "When the PSP®go System launches in October, customers will immediately be able to load up a digital copy of what promises to be one of the platform's strongest RPG releases of the year. To show our devotion to our fans and retail partners, the UMD release of SMT: Persona will include the game's complete 2-disc soundtrack. This tremendous value is exclusive to the retail version of the game, and only available for a limited time at launch."

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona is currently scheduled to release in stores and via PlayStation Network on September 22, 2009. Both versions have an MSRP of $39.99, but only the physical launch copies will include the game's soundtrack on 2 discs, all packaged in a premium oversized outer box.
