The Last of Us gets price drop thanks to local game manufacturing

Naughty Dog’s latest game, The Last of Us, has received a price cut barely a month before it’s scheduled release date. The standard edition will be available at Rs 2,699, down from the previous price point of Rs 2,999.

The price drop is thanks to the game being manufactured in India, which Sony began last month. While the reduction is welcome, we had expected a more drastic cut (at least to the earlier Rs 2,499 price) considering the lack of import and customs duties that were previously levied on console games.

While Sony has confirmed the Rs 2,699 price for The Last of Us, it told MCV India that prices of future games would be determined by currency exchange rates, hinting that Rs 2,699 may not be the permanent pricing for all new games.

The Last of Us is scheduled for release on 14th June exclusively for PS3. Aside from the standard edition, the Joel and Ellie special editions will also be sold in India.
