Ubisoft looking to rid Assassin's Creed of Desmond

Desmond Miles has been one of the protagonists in every major Assassin’s Creed game till date, but all this is set to change very soon if  Alex Hutchinson is to be believed. Speaking at a recent Ubisoft press conference, the creative lead of Assassin’s Creed 3 said, “Desmond needs to end”.

Stressing on the length of time over which various Assassin’s Creed games have been released, Hutchinson said, “We’re asking people to remember seven years’ worth of story, which is like saying you were in junior high and now you’re finishing college, and you need to remember what you were doing in junior high.”

Hutchinson added that Assassin’s Creed 3 is almost a new IP, featuring a new period, story, setting, mechanics and characters with the only common link being Desmond Miles.

Ubisoft has already started to implement the changes with Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation for the PS Vita, which features a new female assassin that is not in any way related to Desmond.

I agree. Desmond needs to go.

Even if these stories had nothing to do with modern times, if they were just period stories of a brotherhood, that in itself would be enough. This Animus crap just seems dumb.

look i think desmond is what holds the story together without it ubisoft would pretty much be skipping around in history with the only common thing is that the main player fights like an assasin
